I don't know of anyone personally but there is someone who can rebuild the engines who posted in the 320si problems thread.

What mileage is your car on? I'm just past 60k and getting twitchy. Did it give any signs that it was on the way out?

Bugger! How riggerous is your servicing and warm up and cool down routine with the car? How long have you had it?

Garage List
43,000 miles and the engine is borked?

Thats shocking - have you full BMW service history? Surely you'd have a case "Unfit for purpose"?

Have a read of the 320si intermittent starting problems thread, it explains the gory detail. Basically the cylinders have a separate liner inserted during manufacture, most commonly steel. The 320si however has aluminium alloy liners which appear to be prone to splitting which is clearly no good thing considering you want a nice tight seal between piston ring and cylinder.

@ peach. That's a nightmare, may have been the original owner who caused some of the damage. I bought mine in September as well and I've done about 5k, always driven gently for first and last ten minutes of a drive to allow the heat to build and then dissipate gradually. I think I'm going to move to 6k oil changes for piece of mind as well.
