the rear oem deck spoiler also come with the same type tape, however most Ive seen can also use Betalink adhesive along side the tape for a little piece of mind. There of crse some pros/cons for both.

Just to resurrect this thread...and get it back on topic, I just installed my aero lip following the way the OP did his. I have to say, the thing isn't going anywhere, but it's not as tight as I'd like either. I wish I would have put some tape in the middle bottom, like by the fog lights. That's where it isn't tight. I used the Windex trick, so everything will be tighter once that totally dries, but that won't help the middle. It kinda bugs me, and I might end up taking it off and adding more tape. But that would be a pain in the ass now. Anyone else experience this?
But...I do love the way it looks! I'll post some pics later.

Some one told be using 3M tape is not a good idea for the front aero lips..because is not air tight .. the puopose of the kit is create more down force on high speed make the car more stable ....BMW spend alot time in wind tunnel design that aero kit ..just using 3m tape create alot of gap that air to leak in..that may create lift instead of down force....you really need a sealer to install the aero kit and make it some what air tight .....i would not drive over 120 miles for a long period time ... if my aero kit is only using 3M tape to install..

I dont see any problem w/ the aero lip being installed w/ the 3M tape if done right. Mine is very secure...I tried to budge it just to see, no luck.
got mine from Evan at Tischer, painted by a friend at a local bodyshop (professional) for $50 cash......he installed it for me too. ![]()

Thanks for revitalizing this thread again. If your terminology is correct, shouldn't we drive a car with seal doors and windows because there are also "gaps" that air would leak in?

3M tape worked fine for me, no gaps or loose fitment. as long as you use the bolts on the bottom and use some type of adhesive on the top, you'll be fine. the lip is very light (I was expecting it to be heavier) so it doesnt take much to have it adhere to your bumper.
i'm not really sure that this piece was truly designed as something to reduce drag or to provide more stability. personally i think more cosmetic than anything.

Did you guys use the windex tip that the OP mentioned? Seems like a good way so just in case you don't get it dead on the first try - how long did it take for everything to settle, before putting the screws back on?
Just got my lip, hoping to install it soon. I just got mine through tischer unpainted, and i seemed a lot lighter (and flimsy) than I had expected, even though i knew it was just plastic...maybe it's because it's unpainted still. |

yes the bolts on the bottom of the bumper is what really secures the bumper from falling off. the 3M double sided tape is use to have a clean fit where you adhere the aero lip over top the painted stock lip

ok you did not really answer my 2 questions. i understand the purpose of the bolts. When installing the aero lip. What is needed to be done besides cleaning the bottom of the bumper, attaching the 3M tape to the lip, spraying windex on the tape, putting the lip on the bumper and aligning it? how do the bolts come into play and what is the "some type of adhesive on the top?"

seems pretty clear to me:
1) unscrew bolts from underneath your stock bumper 2) apply double-sided tape to your lip 3) spray some windex on there to give you leeway when installing 4) slap on the lip to your stock bumper 5) screw in said bolts to secure the lip
