Michelin Pilot Super Sports

Anyone else running these tyres?
Having significant extra grip over PS2s in the summer I expected, but they are a revelation in the winter. Whereas PS2s are quite temperature sensitive with grip falling away once the temps start to drop below 6C or thereabouts the PSSs seem to be hardly affected at all.

I guess you get what you pay for, as with most things!

I'm finding my PS3's a lot better than reports suggested - especially as they replaced PS2's which I liked. I'd also read reports that the PS2's were better...

I had them on my car as summer tires last year and was very satisfied with them. I had PS2 as well as Dunlop SportMaxx before them, and the PSS are better than both. Extraordinary grip in particular when warm, very well controllable at the traction threshold and very good wear resistance.

They're quite expensive, but well worth the investment - at least for those that drive their cars hard and occasionally on the track.

PS3 does not equal PSS. I assume you know this and are just posting about PS3? The PSS replaced the PS2.

My previous set of PS2 were old and hard yet I still got very good traction in cold and wet. I tried to get a set of PSS but couldn't be bothered to wait and so bought a new set of PS2. Even in the extreme cold of late they are still pliable and easily dented with a finger nail.

I'm actually driving good PS2s on the front and now nearly finished PSS on the rear.
Surprisingly the mix gives the car a great balance especially in the summer...although now that the roads are cold and slippy - the front PS2s feel really light, encouraging you to slow down (probably a good thing!) while the rears are still all grippy and encourage you to get on with it.
In decades of tyre swopping motoring the switch from PS2s to PSSs was the first time I've ever felt a quantum improvement in tyre performance.
Definitely worth checking out next time you need tyres...I'm even thinking of dumping the front PS2s with 5mm of tread just so I can get the PSSs on the fronts as well.

Yes... That's why I said PS3 mate

PS3 being the replacement for the outgoing PS2 - which many people are saying is better (a point I am refuting...)

I went from PS2 to PS3's but the 2's being rft and the 3's being non rft. I feel they have given better traction in the wet but I havent tried them in anger on a good surface yet.

The PS3 does not replace the PS2. The PS2 was Michelin's ultimate performance road tyre (ex cups) and has now been superceded by the pilot super sports -PSS.

The PS3 is a more middle of the range performance tyre and I understand it has better wet grip than the PS2.

The noise is probably caused by the stickiest rubber in the world peeling itself off the tarmac like velcro
