CD Changer confusion...

Hi all,

I've read the OEM CD Changer retrofit instructions included on the site, however I still have a bit of a query.

My car came with the CD Changer preperation and having looked inside the trim panel on the left of the boot it seems that the only thing I need to add to get this working is the actual changer itself. I already have the changer bracket and some rather strange looking cut outs on the inside of the trim panel (behind a fold down cover/door).

Just to help with this, would someone mind posting a picture of a UK car, showing the CD changer and if possible pull out the tray above the changer and take a picture of it from the top?

My only other question is that, seeing as so much is already done with the prep, is it likely that this will require coding, or is it possible that it's already done?

Hi Nathan,

I hope this helps, its hard to get a camera directly over the top. I can see why the slots are confusing as the top one does nothing!

Regards,

Mark.

I've just bought/ordered a kit off eBay, so am interested in how this works out...

I thought it would be "plug'n'play"; so am a bit concerned about the (subtle) re-cabling allegedly required (the bit about lowering the seat backrest and finding the MOST-bus distribution block).

And as for the having to get a dealer to recode

I'll let you know how I get on!

OK - got my kit, done the physical install bit, the changer accepts/ejects the cartridge; but the head unit does not recognise it...

I've asked a couple of independent specialists (including PCS in Milton Keynes) and they all say I need to go to a main dealer for get the retrofit s/w reprogramming done!

A minimum of half an hour of main dealer's labour charge plus the £100 I paid on eBay - i may as well as bought it off a main dealer in the first place!

I'm not giving up on independents yet...

Have ben thinking about a retro fit CD changer myself.

Mine doesn't look this this It says CD Changer Preparation on the vehicle spec etc.

What should I have had included with the vehicle as standard? What do you get with the retro fit BMW kit?

Cheers

Steve

Hi, I did exactly the same on an E46 3 series. I had to also buy an adapter unit that connects to the pre-wiring in the boot and then the non BMW CD changer connected to the adaptor unit. I was told you needed the adaptor so the head unit could see/read the non BMW CD changer (It may still be the case with an E90). I used a this company for the adaptor unit: www.connects2.co.uk I would recommend having a look here or calling them - hope this helps.
Why you want a CD changer? Why not just use an iPod?
Good luck anyway!

Because an iPod has around 82dB dynamic range and a CD around 90dB or abouts.
