Low voltage trigger/Cigarette port

So im installing a 10 inch subwoofer into my e92 335i and have a ton of questions. Yes i did buy a separate amp as i understand the stock amp cant power the sub. I have heard that i need a low voltage trigger so that my amp turns on and off when the car stereo is on. Can i just use the cigarette lighter port as another option? how would that work? would i just run power cable to the cigarette port? then what? I want to install this sub and amp tomorrow and cant get the low voltage trigger until wednesday since it is not available in stores near me thank u for any help in advance
