id rather know for sure mate, iv asked him for further info with my chassis number, also that link i sent is for replacement gearboxes that have probably been updated since the original .
Here are the specs for the 6hp21 gearbox - notice the different tq converters and tq nm max inputs, http://www.zf.com/media/media/produc..._DataSheet.pdf

Contacted a member of bmwland.co.uk , who also works for BMW, and according to their ETK i have a GA6HP19Z autobox with the Q126 torque converter, this is rated to 400nm of tq.
Also the gearboxes are rated: GA6HP19Z (designed for maximum torque of 400 Nm) GA6HP19Z TU (designed for maximum torque of 400 Nm) As stated here from BMW TIS - http://www.motor-talk.de/forum/aktio...hmentId=681806 Assumption is the mother of all ......

Im so confused. what the bloody hell is it for my 320d 177 (2009). Can I get this uprated S126 TC from ZF directly without paying stupid BMW premiums? Can a dealer load necessary software on my car after a retrofit?

dont think youl be able to get the S126 TC from ZF - send them an email?
you could also ask for a qoute from - http://www.cotswoldherefordbmw.co.uk/ , who are usually quite reasonable You dont get different software for a TC change, BMW only supply the "BMW performance DME/ECU" which you can buy from cotswolds , and then get an indy/bmw specialist to "program" it to your car (usually around £150 for the program)

Thanks for your reply. So I could fit a s126 TC privately and remap the ecu with someone else? Was wondering if an independant BMW servicer would have access to downloading the appropriate stuff if I got the kit from your mob in Cotswold.

you could get the s126 from ZF if they supply it seperatly, or get it from BMW direct (cotswolds etc) , then get a 3rd party remap (which would void your warranty), dont think an indy would have the BMW performance software, as it is supplied on a seperate ECU which replaces your original one:
Included in the kit are the following upgrades: -New engine control unit incl. engine data update -Plastic air guide -Charge air cooler - bigger intercooler -BMW Power Kit aluminium badge -600 watt electric fan with new fan frame -Additional small components

So Im thinking about getting the kit because the S126 is almost as expensive on its own. One guy here in Australia told me BMW Australia wouldnt fit the kit because it didnt meet homogolation requirements...some bullshit about the ecu not fitting??? This cant be right
My indie has access to the bmw server, so perhaps he can program it? If it works out I cant get it done, I suppose everything but the ecu will be useful, so Ill just have to fork out for a remap. I just need to know if fitting a new TC will require changes to the ecu?? If so how is this done and will this definitely make my gearbox handle more grunt?? Lots of questions gents, but i know the answers are out there somewhere Cheers Dan |

I have found out that BMW offer the PPK tune officially for both the 320d 177 and 184 bhp models, however the nm ratings are different:
184bhp PPK = 205bhp/420nm of TQ 177bhp PPK = 197BHP/390nm of TQ

Ok but with the s126 TC the 184 and 177 models have exactly the same transmission right? That is to say if I get the power kit, I will effectively have the same trannie as the 184hp models.
I think I will get it and if the power isnt enough Ill just get a new remap...at least I know the trannie can handle the torque. |

hi guys, just been reading up on this now, seems "blackrabbit" is using a manual box, so all should be ok, but with the autos, is there a way to actually get under the car to see what gearbox and torque converter we got? Is the part number visible without taking things apart?

well i took the plunge and bought a bluefin, turns out , they couldnt download a map for me due to the ecu encryption (2009 e90 auto) , had to take the car and bluefin to their HQ near milton keynes, they removed the ECU and enabled it for bluefin use, total cost 430 squid all in.
all i can say is, the car is a different car, much faster, more boost, more tq, should be around 210-220 bhp, and you really notice it. The throttle adaption seems to have changed aswell. i didnt have any issues with my auto gearbox, the drive is still very smooth but much more rapid! recommended
