Tips on launching a 6spd 335i w/ PROCede?

My launching skills suck, and the CDV I think isn't helping it. Launched at about 2000 RPM, DTC Off, did a 0-60 of 5.35 with a Beltronics Vector Pro GX2.

I think the CDV is killing my time, although I still really don't know the best way to launch. Should I be holding at around 2K and then just popping the clutch? Any other techniques? It seems that I'm loosing a good amount of time off the line just dropping a bunch of power because of the CDV before the car actually starts moving.

Time to install the modified CDV sitting on my desk

Thanks

Best mod I have made to my car to date. Wouldn't have believed it but I love the clutch feel now. People keep saying you can get used to it, but after 5000 miles, I still didnt have it. And I consider myself a maser of the MT and smooth clutch operation. I feel like I can drive again.

As for how it will effect your launch times...thats still driver skill, but it will definitely get the power to the wheels when you ask it to. Do it this weekend. Don't wait. It took 20 min.

I'm still in my break-in period, so I won't be launching anytime soon, but...

What is the proper technique? A friend who did a BMW track school in Australia using 130i's w/ MT, told me he was instructed to hold 3500 RPM and just drop the clutch. Man, that school sounded cool - standing starts, and passing w/o pointing.

Dont launch until you remove your CDV... i know from personal experience... burned my clutch pretty bad... launch hard and all you will do is slip. Get rid of the CDV and launch from 2K. You will do fine.

I'm intending to do it this weekend. How difficult was it? I need to bleed the clutch correct? Do I need to add more fluid once it's been bled or is it fine?

Very easy... there is a DYI. Yes you need to bleed the clutch and yes it is recommended to top off the fluid.

I still have the CDV.

The CDV has stoped me probably a few times but I took it out of gear when i knew it was slipping.

Theres so many ways to launch your car. Just takes practice.

But like most of the people said already. Take the CDV out if your thinking of doing tons of runs from a dig, esp if you dump on your launches.

I took out my CDV, thats the first step you need to do.
That will allow you to properly launch and not slip (im running procede) and get that critical first to second shift.
Now question, are you running the stock run flats? I am and they suck.
With my CDV out and running procede, I usually launch at 1400 to 1500 rpms. Press the DTC button once also, very important. Since your not running Procede, im guessing 1800 to 2000 would be about right.
With that technique, I can consistently run 4.57 to 4.59 0-60 times using my GT-1 Timer. Fastest I have run has been a 4.56. Once I get better tires, I should do better. Haven't done a full quarter mile yet though, too much traffic in Miami!
If I launch at 2000, I just sit there spinning the rears, Procede is a wonderful thing.

I have yet to experience an issue that leads me to remove the CDV...my M3 still has it and so does my 335i and the car launches just fine. I feather the clutch out around 2,700-3,000 RPM's and it hooks and goes.

Case in point about pressing the DTC button once and launching - I ran a newer (2001) Camaro SS from 20 to 90 mph (rolling start) the other night. We were side by side the whole time with me slightly gaining, but my traction control light came on when I shifted from first to second. Luckily, I did not have to worry about the launch since we started at 20 mph. I would have had him if I had pressed the DTC button!

Needless to say, he was in shock that I stayed right with him.

YEah the DTC makes a big difference. Without it off, you will chirp second and the DTC will kick in and cut power.

so you guys arent disabling the DTC totally? Only one press?

I dont like the electronanny cutting power when I'm actually trying to drive fast.

No only one pressing of the button. Completely turning it off is not required. Im sure you could if you wanted to, but I have never tried it.

hmmm I will have to try this. I always just hold it in til it turns off. 1 press is obviously easier.

If you launch at the right rpm, you shouldnt have excessive wheel spin, so I im guessing whether you hit the DTC once, or fully disable it wont matter if you find that sweet spot where the car doesnt bog, but rather grips and takes off.
