PTF Tuned E50 335xi Dyno Run

I recently went to a dyno to see what my PTF E50 / 93 octane map is putting to the ground on my manual transmission 335xi. The only other modification is an AFE DCI. The plugs are new and I was walnut shelled a few months ago. The results are 413 whp & 448 wtq. This is massively impressive to me given the relatively huge delta over both stock (from what I gather, 280 whp/wtq on P&L Motorsportsí AWD dyno in Franklin Park, IL) and the 93 aggressive OTS Cobb map (356 whp & 389 wtq). As the below graph shows, a peak number comparison is just part of the story. The delta in the meat of the power curve is quite good.

Tuning with PTF was a good experience. I would encourage those on the fence to pull the trigger because it is of great value, especially for those on ethanol blends like me. Jake at PTF was very responsive and was willing to make small customizations to suit my preferences in throttle feel and high-end timing. He took the time to answer all of my questions, which was valuable to an inquisitive person like me. Doing runs in 3rd gear and emailing them to PTF is pretty easy and you can take your time doing it. I started in September and didnít finish until December (holidays, business travel, having to get a DCI and getting married interfered with my tuning schedule). This flexibility was a huge plus.

The map is smooth in all situations and drives predictably. From the graph, one can easily see why people say not to take 3rd gear and higher up to redline- the power falls off fast. Also, Jake was able to get rid of the 3rd to 4th gear shift knock / timing pulling. In fact, this was the reason I first reached out to Jake.

Before I am asked, the dyno operator, sadly, did not log the runs properly, so I do not have the logs of these runs.

So, do I earn my FlexFuel badge yet? Front-door parking for me at Whole Foods from now on!

Blue is the PTF map and red is the Cobb Stg 1 aggressive map. Green was a failed attempt to show what a stock map with a DCI would do (not like I could drain the fuel tank, so it had to be a custom map). Boost was a pound or so too high and I didn't feel like monkeying around with it since the curve looked within expectations. Each run posted is the best of three with similar cool down times in between. IATs were similar between runs and higher than I'd like. Intercooler upgrades are key on this platform.

A delta for your car would be nice, but 413awhp with just ethanol and an intake is ridiculous. Wow.

Excellent numbers! Damn that's a lot of power for your mods. Up the percentage to only e85 then that badge is all yours

Incredible numbers for just an intake on an XI! I wonder if we can get E85 up here in Canada anywhere. Anyone know?

I can see the dyno graph embedded in the post. Is it not up? I have it in my pictures album and thought that I inserted the pic to show properly.

I'm not sure why you guys can't see the dyno graph, but the runs I did showed a 57 whp and 59 wtq gain over Cobb's aggressive maps.

If you figure a stock vehicle would put down 280 whp/wtq on this particular dyno, then that is a 133 / 168 whp/wtq delta.

That's what I thought when Shiv first claimed it possible on his flex fuel setup (I think it may have been 425 whp on an i with 60% E). I am astounded by these results, too. That said, we are all now seeing dynos here and there with similar power. Ethanol is the real deal!

Extremely impressive numbers man, your car with just an intake and more drivetrain loss from awd would walk away from my FBO car right now. Since I can’t see the pictures, how much peak boost are you flowing? I need to mess around with E85 more clearly

PTF=Pro Tuning Freaks, they do custom Cobb tunes for our cars, either in person or via email using data logs. Search around a good number of folks are protuned by them, they do really good work.

I can see the graph now. Your car dynoed stock at 280whp or most dyno stock there? 280 seems to be what most rwd 335's dyno stock while the awd's are around 260 ish stock. Either way the numbers are really impressive. PTF are doing some great things

I wish it didn't...that would mean that the amount of power picked up was even greater! At the end of the day, all dynos are different, even dynojets are different from each other. 280 whp for a stocker was an estimate.

Th estimate seemed reasonable following this thinking: If I put down 300whp with an DCI and an extra pound or so of boost, then 270-280 seems reasonable (figuring the DCI and pound of boost are worth 10-15 whp each). Just a guess. At the end of the day, track times are the better comparison tool between cars in different regions.

Anyway, what part of Greece are you in? I remember there being a Subaru guy in Argos that had a dyno.

It didn't actually dyno at 280. That was a guess based on the assumptions noted in the post above. I'm putting a lot of faith in an attempt to make a stock map that can run on E50...which is dubious. We'll have to wait for somebody else to dyno a 100% stock car on that dyno.

Would be be cool if it would have dyno'd 260 whp...20 whp more of a delta! Or, the dyno reads high. It doesn't have that reputation in the Subaru world, but who knows. Track times will tell a more useful story.
