Arrow Display Help - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

Hey guys,

Need some help. Got an April 07 production build and I cant seem to enable the arrow display function on the right screen anymore. Its grayed out. I checked all my settings and I have no clue how to get it back. Any ideas? Do I need to apply a Hard Reset? It was working earlier but when I started the car this afternoon, I notice my Navigation page was all funky and the map scale was zoomed out. I hope this isnt something I need to bring into the dealership for.

Correct me if im wrong, but i thought arrow display could only be used when you set your navigation to a certain destination. Hence the arrows will display which direction you should be going and when the next turn is, etc etc.

Im sure if you set your navigation to a destination, the arrow display wont be grayed out anymore.

Well...from my memory..the arrow display function when the navigation isnt enable shows an arrow pointing North and with the current street name that im on. My arrow display does pop up when I have a destination selected at it points me in the correct direction. It was working before so I dont understand what happen.

You’re talking about two deferent things. 1) Arrow display is the one that will point out if you’re going to make a right or a left on the turn, and only works if you have a destination turn on. 2) Current position is the one that you can have ON at all times, and it tells you direction of North, and also the current street that you are driving. I’m sure your iDrive is working fine you just had them mixed up.

let me know if you have any other questions. You can also use your voice commands to activate them both. Example: Assistant window, Current position.

Thanks 07328, I must of thought that arrow display function was the compass display and current street name screen. Ill try to activate the current position tonight when I get home...thanks again for clearing this up..still a noob to idrive.

Hey DaRipper, just noticed your sig. How long after arrival at Port Hueneme did you get your car? I have an E93 on order, production due to be completed June 9. I'm in NorCal, so I know it might be an extra day or so.

The car arrived on the 15th of May at port and then it arrived at bmw of mountain view on the 18th. Picked the car up on the 19th.

Regarding #2 above....Can you use Current Postion on the large Nav map side? Or just the little one?

Yes, you can have it on the large screen. I actually like it better on the larger screen. When I don’t have a destination turned on and just driving around town. I have current position on the left side; it’s nice because it reads the Street that you’re driving and also the local City. And on my assistant window screen I have a map so I can see the upcoming street names.
That’s the cool part about the dual screen, that you can customize it however you need it. I just change it depending on where I’m driving.

That’s the cool part about the dual screen, that you can customize it however you need it. I just change it depending on where I’m driving.

I agree. The one thing I'd like to see is the ability to have nav on the main screen and audio info (ie, ipod songs) in the assistance window...

^^ audio info in the assist window would be nice. As would being able to have two different map views, one in each window. For example, the big window with a zoomed in, direction of travel version of the map and the assist window with the map zoomed out and facing north.

One really nice thing about Garmin is the ability to customize the nav interface to your liking. iDrive is customizable, but I'd like it to be even moreso. What info is displayed at what time and on what screen, what colors are used, more shortcut buttons, etc.

What sucks (and I just found this out from someone here) that if your using the large side for facing north just driving around town and stuff and you have the intergration iPod, you can't see what song your on, why didn't they allow you to use the right window for the music and Fm stations while using the large window for map.

This blows, since I'm usually listening to CD's all the time but having the map on too would be cool at the same time but then you don't know what song your on and worse if you have the iPod cause you have no screen on the left if your using current view on the left. I hope this doesn't bother me too much.

Does this bother anyone else?

You're correct. I thought I did this once, but if you adjust the scale on one map, the other does the same..tried it yesterday.
