e92 323i Coupe ECU Re-Mapping

Hey Guys,

Just wondering whether anyone had re-mapped & tuned their 323i. I am currently doing mine through City Performance who claim that the result will be 171kw (from 140kw).

Many of the threads i've read doesn't really support this but thought i'd take the punt anyway.

Keen to know if anyone else had done it before.

personally a tune in a na engine I'd expect less than 10%, real world at the wheels more like 10kw. not great but with a bunch of supporting mods better than stock. what are they charging for the 'tune'

thanks pc.

they did seem quite knowledgable straight off the bat as if they had done this a thousand times. Apparently they can get the same power output from the 325i also, so 171kw for both cars. not a big gain for the 325 but seemed impressive for the 323i.

price is $1595.

sounds like shit to me, I hope for your sake it's true though.

1595 is a shit lot of money for a tune imho

Yes, let us know how it goes. I have just recently picked up an e92 323i myself and have been wondering about tuning. Would be great if you could post the dyno results when your done.

Call me a sceptic.

I can't remember if the 323i has a 3stage intake manifold or not, if someone with a 323i would be kind enough to post a pic of their engine bay then I could confirm this...

With a 3 stage intake manifold and a flash, I reckon the 323i could have at least the same power as a 325i.

I have seen what I believe is this exact map out of the UK. Seems very pricey if it is just a flash over ODB port.

You should feel better throttle response from it though.

Give us some feedback once you get it done!

The 323i has a 2 stage intake, hence the difference to the 325i. I believe it is
possible to upgrade to a 3 stage and this would be the best way to get any
real perfomance gain out of this engine.

Yes I believe the power gains lie in the 3stage manifold + tuning.

Tuning alone, we'll wait and see if the OP gets 171kw

no dyno before and after to substantiate the claim of 171kw, but they did dyno one of the first ones they did and are going to show me the dyno sheets when I pick the car up in a few hours.

process is that they download the map then send it to a guy in Germany who overnight re-maps the program then sends it back and then they simply re-upload the new mapping... easy right.

will report feedback once the car is back in my hands.

also, the reason for the big gain is that the 323i holds a de-tuned version of the 325i... they did agree that most N/A engines would only be able to be tuned for a small gain but this car is one of the exceptions.

if they're using an in house dyno, it wouldn't be that difficult for them to get 170kw to appear at the peak... if you catch my drift. independent dyno's would work best.. but don't worry, as long as you're happy with the outcomes that's all that matters

YEap it's all plug and play. Thats how I did for my car myself cost me only $1k including changing the exhaust.

Pretty weak that they dont give you pre and post dynos. Just confirms what cynical operation they are running; I mean, for $1600 they wont even bother with a dyno to indicate the gains???. Someone elses dyno plot doesnt mean anything as its not your car.

The difference with the 323 is thats its rev limited and peaks between 5500 and 6000rpm whereas 325i peaks at 6500-6700.

Most german tuners have to comply with TUV certification and so their tunes are hardly pushing the envelope of what performance the engine can do. My 135i with procede is slurping 14-15l/100km and my tuned 125i is still only using 12l/100km when thrashing it. If you dont mind your fruel economy going through the roof than you could get more than 171kw out of that engine but no-one but the germans seem to be able to tune them and as I said before, they all stay very tame and compliant.

As you have already gone ahead with this, you should come along to the dyno day that Raj (TWD) has organised. I dont know if any other n52b25 cars are going but it would be good for you to see what power your car produces in comparison to others. Also, depending on how its setup, you could see if your still peaking at 5500-5800rpm or now peaking at 6500-7000rpm which would indicate that the tune is legit.

I have had the procede in maybe 2 months now and I have driven like a total wanker everyday :P Hence the 15l/100km

Its also the only mod I have atm so I assume when I get to fbo and a cobb style customised tune, it would be more efficient.

OP, come to the dyno day...

or get a dyno done at Advan Performance, I had my 325i dyno'd there so to compare apples with apples we could see how your tuned 323i goes against my stock 325i
