wierd Idrive issue

I started my car today and I had an SOS error on my dash, and then my idrive would not respond at all. The date and time at the bottom of the idrive screen was all ---- and I could not navigate anywhere with my idrive wheel. Also, the 6 memory buttons were blank when I tried to use them. About 10 minutes later while I was driving, everything came back to life. This is the 2nd time it has done this.

What gives?

It's happened to me once. No clue on the cause. Perhaps it's a Windows "feature".

This same thing happened to me yesterday. Anyone know what's the problem?

I had this last December and the CCC was replaced...along with the screen, the DVD drive, the CD drive, a portion of the wiring loom.... Since then I've not had the SOS but have had the iDrive system just not boot unless I turn the car off and wait ten to fifteen minutes. The service department hasn't a clue. It does seem it it happening to a lot of other's cars so it isn't mine alone. A software update may be a solution.

this happen to me the twice during the first month of taking delivery. what I found out was that if i just turn off the engine but leave the car with the iDrive on, this reboot will occur. if i turn off the engine and iDrive by holding the start button before leaving the car, the reboot never happen again.

Not sure if it is the same problem but mine would freeze up and screen went blank a few times. Took it to the dealer and they put a newer version of the software on it and it has worked fine if not better then before. So I would take it to the dealer and see if there is a software patch available.

Upgraded my iDrive to version 26. The next day after I turned on the car, the BMW screen did not boot and the white screen blinked a few times and then went completely dark. Turned off the car and waited 10 minutes, then the iDrive booted up normally. The same events happened at least 10 more times. Don't have the time to bring back to the dealer yet, but will update once I finally get there.

Edit: Tried the manual reboot (Voice Button + two eject buttons), but it did not help

Have the same issue but I forgot what version of the software I have now. I just reboot the iDrive with the volume knob and two eject buttons. Probably will have them look at it when I need an oil change.
