Update ECU map - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

Hi,
I am new to this section.
I wonder if somebody can point me in the right direction.

I am wondering if I can update the firmware/ map of my ECU.

I drive E90 petrol 320i.

Bit confused, as where to find those files, and how to start.

Any help much appreciated.

Most people are here to modify the settings in the car for simple things.
They only update when they have to put an upgraded module in.
From what I understand up dating modules requires long programming times
and you are advised to use a power supply to keep the battery alive during the process.
If you look you will find a few threads on this some also use Progman or
istap to update.

And the people that have done it suggest that is very risky and requires quite a lot of reading so if you don't know where/what winkfp is you probably should not be trying it

Can you update map of your ECU with SSS?

It updates any module and adds options or programs modules that have been replaced or upgraded . It was replaced by ista p to my understanding.
Its not for tweeking engine parameters specifically to my understanding though it may do that.

Like ctuna wrote, sss is old version of new ista p , dont use sss unless you want to force upload older ecu maps
