Sounds like a good idea but shouldn't these come standard? My dealer threw in the winter/carpet mats as well as wheel locks for free...

You tell that to someone who parks in an inner city a lot (such as myself). Stock or not, they are still BMW wheels... I spent money upgrading to 162's, I would like to keep them.

If I really piss off the mechanic by him only having to go into my trunk to get the key for the locks, then he's got one short fuse... If thats the case, guess whose NOT working on my car...

do you think there's a huge market for people who want to upgrade to stock bmw wheels from other bmw stock wheels

most people with wheel locks don't even bother to tell the shop where the key is when they drop the car off which makes a huge problem for the shop trying to find the damn thing, plus most people keep the key in the car which makes it useless as people will break in and steal the key

I live in an area where BMW's are everywhere. Who cares about the market. If someone will buy them for 100 bucks, thats all profit for those stealing the rims. Not to mention most people have the expensive RF tires which can be a hot item.


I want wheel locks for the extra security... so what... who cares... I can spend my $30 however I want to

if you haven't been tire shopping, RF tires are no more expensive than regular tires

hey, if it makes you feel better get them. I have no place to tell you what to do, that's for damn sure. I used to work at a shop though, and please, each and every time you drop your car off make sure you tell them where the key is. it's terrible trying to work on a car when you can't even take the wheels off since the driver was so " scared" of wheel theft

The locks aren't only for stock wheels, they are for aftermarket wheels as well. Stock BMW wheels are stolen all the time, if you don't think there is a market for OEM wheels, go look on eBay.

Also, anybody who is purchasing RAD wheel locks cares enough about their car to tell the body shop that they have wheel locks, and "here is my key". The people who don't tell the shop where the wheel lock key is generally NEVER KNEW they even had wheel locks. That won't be a problem here.

On my previous car I always took the wheel lock key out of the trunk and put it on the passenger seat whenever I go in for service. I'm very nice.

On a side note, I have been using these RAD wheel locks for about a year now and they are great, I love them . Wheels haven't been stolen yet

How are these any better than the OEM ones? Seem more expensive. Pacific BMW has the OEM locks for $16 without the plastic cap

I can't speak for anyone else, but personally, I wanted to find a wheel lock that was less popular. The reason is that professional thieves usually have a set of keys for common wheel locks, I just assumed the OEM BMW keys would be duplicated by the thieves, so I went with this RAD lock which has a bit of a different pattern to it.

the factory wheel locks have a slot for a key rather than a different bolt head like many aftermarket designs

a keyhole on a lug nut can easily become rusted out and difficult to use after a couple of years on the road (especially in snow/salt areas)

I got the wheel locks for free with my car but it didnt come with the plastic cap like in the pictures. I talked to the dealaership and they said there is nothing they can do and there is no part # for the plastic caps, anyone else get the wheel locks? Also I was told the new e90 wheel lock are slightly different then the ones for the e46.

I am almost positive that the E90 uses a different wheel lock from the E46. At least thats what the parts department told me when I picked up my car.

My salesperson assumed they were all the same, but the parts department had to order a set for me (they had none of the "new locks for the E90).

Wheel locks are standard here on BMW's. There is a nice little place in the toolbox to keep the "key"

Strangely, one night I stopped at a petrol station to put petrol into my E46. Well, there was a lady who had a flat tire in another E46, and a kind man that was helping her. She didn't (for some reason) have her wheel lock thing with her, so they asked if they could use mine. I was like "I'm sure they are different, but...err...i guess you could try" and so they tried, and it fit perfectly.

I donno how much difference it really makes...but if I had really nice expensive wheels, I would get a different wheel lock for each nut - now imagine a tire shop guy with that... have to figure out which one to use for which nut, for 4 wheels. That would drive me mad. hahah
