Can anyone tell me

if and what the difference between the engines in the 325d and 330d?

are they the same apart from the ECU map? or do hey have different turbos?

and can a 325 or 525 be remapped to the same power as a 30d engine?

ta very much

i have a vague recollection that the gearbox might be different, as well as some other bits (higher torque rating on the 330d?)

have a look on realoem.com to see if thats nonsense

EDIT - seems to be true - 330d
http://realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.do?mo...25&hg=24&fg=05

325d - gearbox different part number, different shape
http://realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.do?mo...41&hg=24&fg=05

engines look identical, but have slightly different part no.s

turbos are the same....

http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...73&hg=11&fg=50

valves are the same 325/330d
http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...54&hg=11&fg=25
interestingly the intake and exhaust valves are all same part number (all 24 identical)

pistons are same

Injectors are different - 325d

330d

I thought it was smaller turbo and injectors? might be (more than likely!) wrong!

I guess the 325d gearbox was marginal for 330d torque, so mapping a 325d past a 330d may carry some risk.

Also the revised 330d injectors probably are geared for chucking more fuel in faster, so more scope for more powaar?

Some guy in the technical forum mapped his 325d to the same as a mapped 330d.

I think he said internals were the same. I remember commenting I thought some of the bits were different and surely his map was going to stress the engine to much.

Edit: found the thread http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...highlight=325d

I have a good memory

at sometime in 2010 325d & 330d used same engine, turbo, injectors only difference is the map so a 2010 325d can be mapped to the same power as a 335d

before the change over in 2010 it was a smaller turbo & injectors so the 325d could only be mapped to the same power as a 330d

so it all depends on the age of the car and i think it has to be late 2010 to be the same as a 330d apart from the map

I've been looking at 58 09 plate 525d business Editions Because the spec is excellent and the boots on the saloons are huuuge but they come with 197 bhp and 295 torques. So if they can remap to say 250BHP and 360 lbft I think it'll be just about perfect as my daily driver. Thanks for all your input lads
