Engine overheating

So out of nowhere, my engine started overheating. The red thermostat popped up on my dash. So immediately I take it to a mechanic. It's 4pm Saturday and Tuffy's was closest. I have to leave it there till Monday. They call me today morning, and quote me $1200 for the fix. The want to replace the water pump, thermostat, and do a radiator flush. I ask why so high, and they tell me BMW has expensive water pumps. Has this happened to anyone? And is does the price sound right?

Taking it to Tuffy's was your first mistake. Your second would be leaving it there.

I know the water pumps are expensive. Mine was under warranty, don't know how much BMW would have charged.

But water pump alone is $600 msrp with thermostat at 120 msrp.

Tischer has them at $492 and $90.

I think that sounds about right from what I've read others have paid. There is a DIY on here if you have the time and some mechanical skills that would save about half the cost. What year and mileage is your car?

Yeah based on what i read here it sounds about right, but for that price is better to take it to a BMW dealer. They are not saving you much, I would feel better.

Hahahaha I think everyone's water pumps are going out this month, I have a horror story post about my pump last Friday. Yes $1200 is the right price with labor. $835.04 is the exact price quote from BMW for the parts alone. I'm doin this install myself, I'm gonna try to take pictures and all sorts of other things for this.
