trade in price
anyone want to play a game of "have a guess at the price Mercedes Benz quoted me as a trade in against a brand new shiny C-class coupe???"

I'd guess it's a car that would go straight to auction and I would imagine Merc do not need to try too hard with the C Coupe right now due to its novelty value.
I'll take a stab at £6k. |

i guess they arent having to work to hard on the sales side at the moment, as they are pretty popular. even so, you'd think they would give you an incentive to do the deal.
£4800 was the offer. I was expecting 7k ish i know big petrol engines arent shifting in the current market, but even so, thats taking the proverbial somewhat I thought. im still not 100% on the exterior, but the more I see them the more I like them, but the interior is far superior to the 3 series (facelift or not). my opinion only of course. |

im in no rush to sell up to be fair, i was curious about the merc more than anything else, but Im going to put mine up and see what happens.
ive seen something I like now though, bit like when I first viewed my car! cheapest m-sport under 100k miles on AT is 10250, so Id market mine for less, though of course its only worth what someone wants to pay, and its not a sellers market by the sounds of it. ***correction, there is a red 325i msport for 8'950 with auto and Idrive with 99k miles. wow! how cars depreciate! exactly what im now looking to achieve, take the lump sum cash from the BMW, then lease something for 24 or 36 months.
had an initial quote of £315 (inc VAT) for a 250CDI with auto box and command, over 24 months @ 12k miles. seems very very reasonable to me! |

mate of mine has just got a C class coupe on lease and he hates it already, choppy ride and he says it has a very thrashy sound to it, it's a 4pot diesel not sure what engine size though.
he has a new shape E class before it which he says was a million miles better than the coupe. |

market this at £7500 and it will sell.
ive got a mate works at a merc main agent. They send all their trade ins to auction and they always value cars at alot less than they expect to get, to cover transport, auction fees etc and to hopefully give them some profit.

Nonetheless, negotiate hard, try alternative dealers or chance your luck on Autotrader and you ought to get more. |

makes me laugh that the sales guy "made it his job to know everything about cars" but a) didnt know that he had to push the start/stop button! and then b)asked where the sat-nav was, and then c) didnt know how I managed to get the paint work so smooth "you must have it supaguarded when new" - eeeeer no, I dont think so retard! bell end. sometimes you just have to go through the pain to get the good stuff on the other side - at least I know what I want and what I dont now. |

I was offered £3400 as a good trade in price for mine (which i obviously declined) and got £5000 for it as a private sale. IMO trading in genuine, "want-for-nothing" cars is for people with more money than sense. Get some decent photos of your car (not stupid "arty" ones), spend 30 minutes writing out a decent advert for your car, put it on PH, eBay and Autotrader (if you go through Quidco, 2 weeks on Autotrader is only like £15!). And then sit back and wait. I've sold 4 cars this way and even thought my 330i took some 4-5 weeks to sell, i got £1600 more than i would have done if i had traded it in. Now i don't know about you, but £1600 is a LOT of money to me! I sold my dad's car in 2 days and the other 2 took about a week. Quote:
