XI power distribution?? - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

just out of curiosity, i know that xi system distributes power front and back depends on the situation but does it distribute side to side as well?

No, there is no side to side adjusting. Just front to back. Need to go out and buy 2 lsds if you want that.

Yes and no. It can apply the brakes to one side which will apply more power to the opposite side.

In terms of traction, pretty much all cars these days can do that to their drive wheels. That's what stability/traction control does mostly...

If you meant to ask if the torque shifts during cornering in non-slip situations to reduce understeer (like GT-R and EVO) then no...I believe the X6M was the first BMW to have torque vectoring xDrive to improve handling. Audi's S4/S5 don't have this standard either and need to be ticked as an option.

Oh, and an LSD will not do that. Limited Slip Differentials just lock both axles together if the car is in a power situation as opposed to braking or cruising. You would need an electronic differential to actually distribute power from one side to the other selectively.
