N52- Removing sludge- What cleaner?

Hey, so in looking at my oil cap I notice some build up on the springs and some other areas, presumably due to high miles and extended oil intervals.

Wondering what I should do to try and clean it out safely...I've read about rislone engine flush, auto-rx, etc...just curious if you guys have used anything successfully.

Im sure I will need to change the filter a few times right after the application of cleaner, but my main concern is not having deposits plug up oil passages when stuff gets cleaned out

Read most of the 62-page post on BITOG - very interesting. A "safe" toxic solvent for your engine and injectors! Weird flubber magic stuff.

Have you tried it on your BMW? I saw a lot of other import references, one BMW, but before I try it in mine (100+ mi) just looking for a little insurance that someone else already guinea-pigged this on our machines!

I've read that repeated short interval oil / filter changes will break it down as well...for cars in general, not just ours.

This is a much better method of cleaning an engine, and of course sticking to a fully synthetic oil.

I had symptoms of possible sludge / PCV issues: intermittent whistle sound, vanos solenoids jamming. Cleaning vanos and stepping up the oil changes seems to have eliminated it.

2006 E90 330i  [4.08]
it's more costly to increase oil change frequency but it keeps my N52 running smoothly and strong. replaced my vanos solenoids at 75k and they were as clean as the brand new ones I got. I put the old ones in the box and now they're my spares.

at 75k, I also made the switch from BMW's 5W30 to Castrol Edge 0W40. oil and filter changes every 5k to 7.5k.

Hmm. The oil in it now is quite a bit overdue, maybe ill just change it and keep changing it every 3k for a while. I'll have the valve cover off this week for a gasket change, I can just scrape off and vacuum up what I can and hopefully that will take care of it.

It's not snake oil.

I've used it on my E46, my 220k mile E36 M3, and my sisters E90 330i. Combined, the cars probably have 100k+ miles after the treatment. It sure as hell won't make anything worse, and I think you'll be pleased with the results if you do it.

BITOG is a wise forum, even if they discuss a subject I have zero interest in thinking about on a day to day basis.

I've had good results with Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant and Injector Cleaner. I bought 1 gallon via Amazon. Also, single size available at your local auto parts store. Good luck
