Service Interval concerns...

I finally found a car! It's an 07 335i M Sport Coupe with 39k miles on the clock but I'm a little concerned it's only had one service at 11k miles (07/09) and is saying that the next oil service is in 7000 and main service in 17000?! That can't be right can it? The last owner only bought it as an AUC in 07/11 and I'm led to believe that if a service is due in so many thousand miles they do it as part of their prep before sale?

I know additional info can be held on the key so fully expecting some additional work needs doing when I hand that over for the MOT, it has to doesn't it?

Edit - From memory it was on 23k miles when he bought it from BMW in July last year and he did 16k miles in less than 8 months, would that be a factor?

Oil is usually max 20k or 2 years, so seems something isn't quite right

I think so too but if BMW only had it back on their books 8 months ago you'd have thought it would have been done, unless it was and they didn't stamp the book?

They claim - "A used BMW can only become approved if it has been serviced in srict accordance with BMW servicing recommendations....we'll also carry out any neccesary work before delivery including if a service is due in less than 4000 miles"

Afaik 8000 miles is what the service counter is reset to after a service. So maybe it has recently been serviced and not stamped. It then goes down in 1000 mile increments.

39k and 1 service doesn't sound right, mine had 4 by 41k.

I get the feeling that they reset the service counter to avoid servicing the AUC vehicle. I also think they don't do as strict as checks as they claim.

I'd bet the same, I don't mind having to catch up on some work but I don't want it to be an issue for the warranty which runs through to July 2013

15000 miles is the reset value after a service and then depending on how it is driven it can go up or down. Just had my 3rd sevice at 44000 miles

And I do mostly motorway work, and hardly any short trips and mine runs to about 18K miles.
I do my own interim oil+filter changes at around 9k though for longevity.

In which case the possibilities would seem to be that it was not serviced before sale in 07/11 despite not having one for 2yrs or it was serviced then but with no stamp...or the CBS is broken?

I know it had all pads/discs replaced a month or so ago under warranty for a brake sensor issue which means they had the data on the keys too?

Have emailed the dealer in question and will take it from there/take to my local dealer to get the key read

Just to close this one down, the missing service was done as part of the AUC workup and they are going to stamp for me...
