The yellow half engine icon by itself is NOT a service engine soon light or a check engine light. The yellow half engine icon is only telling you it's in limp mode and you will not be able to read the fault with a generic OBD2 fault code reader.

If you get a "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light by itself then there is a fault stored and the fault coder reader should be able to retrieve it.

In some cases one can get the yellow half engine icon and a service engine soon light at the same time.

Of course, this only works with actual "Service Engine Soon lights" not the half-engine light.

Thank you. I'll start my second try to install the PROcede in about 7 hours ... good to know. How to behave on the half-engine light ?

Edit: jon@themshop explained.

With the half-engine light, you just have to turn the ignition off/on to clear it (assuming the underlying cause has been solved of course).

SHIv, I rechecked all the wires, and now I have a Service Engive Soon light
on.

CReader: p146: O2 sensor circuit No activity detected (bank 1 sensor 3)

Yep... as suspected, there is something wrong with the wiring in #6 and #7 (1st and 2nd o2 sensor). It really sounds like you pushed one of the two wires into the wrong slot (that's way the ECU is not seeing any sensor signal from one of the o2 sensors).

For now, do this: Remove the yellow loom completely (just leaving the white and green looms installed). Put the #6 and #7 wires back into their original slots in the ECU connector (the wire with '525" stamped on it goes into #6, the other one goes into #7. Reset your codes and drive around for a couple of days. You will have ignition and boost control during this time. After you confirm that the problem went away, go ahead and reinstall the yellow loom properly (don't cross up the #6 and #7 wires). At this point, you will have fuel control and you'll be good to go.

Shiv, I have put the original yellow/white wires back in and cleared the code.

Will I have full PROcede power during this time?

But if it didn't work now, why would it work after 2 days? Just wondering...

Shiv, the car works fine now...with PROcede.

After reading all your posts, I decided to revert back to stock and try to reinstall the PROcede from scratch again.

The car runs great now. Awesome power.

I'm not sure what I did wrong the first couple of times, but I suspect it had something to do with the black male wires that went into the extracted #6 and #7 wires. I think the conection was bad. I also might have mis-connected the green wire in the large ECU connector.

Anyway, the car runs great now and pulls hard. Thanks.

Re-check your wiring again. I think my problem was when I joined the black male wires with #6 and #7 extracted from the ECU. After covering with electrical tape the connection was still bad. So I reconnected them

Also, as far as I understand "Engine Malfunction, reduced power" might also come from the green wire in the large ECU conector. Check to see that you have that right.

for sure not wiring... i have installed this thing about 40 times with my car as well as all the people in so cal that I have done for them. i have the install down with no problems.

its has to be the harness with a faulty connection or someting else?

e93 PROcede installed

Hi,

I solved my PROcede installation problem and everything is fine now.

What happened ? At my first approach including the installation-test with the bypass plugs everything was ok.

As soon as I connected the PROcede ( including the PROcede power connection ) I got a lot of codes, even some which cannot be related to the PROcede and ended up in removing everything and going back to stock. The car was not drivable, after a BMW service car cleared the errors it was ok again, but stock.

Shiv helped that I could check the harness, it has been ok. He sent a special map to me so that I could re-assign a signal to a different input / output. But in advance to reassign something I liked to give me a second, slightly different try.

Preparation:

- I loaded the v1.45 Steptronic map into the PROcede
- I soldered every contact of the harness except the connectors on the ECU side
- I drove the car to a dealership to clear all errors eventually stored in the ECU memory ( there have been 2 the service car did not clear due to an elder software release )

Installation:

- I waited until the ignition was off and disconnected the car's battery
- I did the complete install without any intermediate checks
- I reconnected the battery, the car started and was fine without any problem or code

Post Installation:

- I drove the car to a dealership again to see if I have got any error codes after the install. I had none.

So far I did about 60 miles with the PROcede installed. Everything is working like expected, the next days will show if I really have a problem-free environment. In my opinion the removal of the 40 or 50 amp. fuse without disconnecting the battery can generate error codes like DSC, etc. I also learned that even when you installed everything right and you do have errors stored in the ECU the engine can behave strange. The Creader tool does not clear all errors stored in the ECU.

So if you have troubles let the errors clear at a dealership and see if that helps. Also disconnecting the battery during the install might be a good idea.

Cheers
Eugen

good to hear! I would also suggest disconnecting your battery during any kind of unplugging of sensors/wires... especially for people with comfort access. Its so easy to do, why not!

eugen..
does your wireless access thingy work for uploading maps, now that its in the car?

It worked when I did the first install. Today I did not install it because I expected problems again and wanted to have a minimum install as everybody has. I will install the wireless access again in the next couple of days.

p.s. I do have comfort access.
p.p.s. Can it be that with the PROcede the engine runs smoother than without ? The operating temps did not change in my case.
