One month in with the M3

Had the M3 just over a month now and I'm still impressed with it.

Its not used a drop of oil, has hardly worn my rear tyres and delivers a big smile every time I hit 8k

I borrowed a set of 18" off a good mate as I sent one off one of my 19" to be re-cut.

If I was to get 18" then I would definitely lower it and spacer it out to make it look better, it would look more motorsport inspired deffo but Im hapy with my OEM 19"

Here is some sunny pics, rubbish Im afraid due to the camera phones crap so called camera and the sun was to bright.

I think the red leather contrasts beautifully with the silver paintwork
Im glad I bought a Facelift as it saved me spending on rear lights, which I would have to have done if I bought a pre facelift. Love the ''Ministry of sound'' rear lights

The engine looks the tits....

All I have done so far is manage to get the bluetooth connected to my I-phizzle (well my mate did it) and he also updated the Sat-Nav, its so current it comes up with a business park which has not even been built in my town yet. It looks very modern and 3D look and is probably now better than a standard Sat-Nav in a 07-08 3series. (looks more modern than my 335d sat nav did, but that prob need updating itself now).

My friend also upgraded the amplifier for my Harman Kardon stereo and its sounds much cleaer & crisper than standard.

The car is quick without a doubt. Ive done some runs and it is only 2 tenths slower 30-70mph than my re-mapped 335d. But I think I could slightly improve through the gears there.

The power delivery is very linear and always building up untill that 8k Redline.

Im down to 19mpg now around town etc which is similar to what I got out of the 335d. But I didn't buy the car for its fuel economy, I bought it for its RRRAASSSSPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

Which sounds the TITS I might add...

cheers

Certainly a lovely motor..

I quite fancied an E46 M3, but I settled for a 335D. I think I have the best of both worlds with power, comfort and economy..

Thing is steve the 335d's power is so accessible. That's why it's so quick.
The M3's little torque and high peak power makes it hard to be consistent. I think it would take a very good driver in the M3 to beat a mediocre driver in a re-mapped 335d.

For example 40mph in 6th the M3 driver would have to drop 4 gears to get decent acceleration. The 335d, one gear and half throttle has already fucked off down the road.

I think both cars on the boil with good drivers on a circuit. The M3 may just win. ( going off ring times etc) but on the road it's hard to compete with a 335d which has been tuned.

I did in my mapped 335d 11.2 0-100mph. The M3 on a decent run is supposed to do 11.5.

I'll wait till I get some 1/4miles in. Will be interesting to compare to my old motor!

I agree that the 335d has a constant punch on offer from 2k -3k rpm where as your M3 has to be singing to match that torque.. I guess the 335d can be driven fast very easily.

I think the M3 would win on a circuit due to it's design where as I see the 335d as more of a 'cruiser'.

It will be interesting to see the results when you finally get some 1/4 miles times.

As a whole package, I'm more than happy with my standard 335d at the moment..

Looks great Carl and i quite like the black 18's on it, albeit a temporary fitting!

Pleased you still like it and the summer will bring some happy motoring, I am sure

One thing does concern me....you park next to shopping trolley bays in a supermarket car park!!!!! Get it moved man, away from all the other numpties! Came back once to find a trolley resting against the M3's rear door in a 'safe' parent and child space. Some people have no brains or conscience unfortunately

Nice car you have....here was mine. Brings back amazing memories. Though M3 has no patch on the Evolve 335d.

Looks fantastic Carl, I wish I had done the E46 M3 along the way. Would like to see some pics of the updated Nav display please . Great colour combo too.

I had some good news regarding the arrival of my new toy today.

No wonder you've hardly worn any of your rear tyres - but your mates tyres have f-all rubber left ...

Thats a mint looking M3 DXB.
Gotta be lighter than the 335d though - so would handle better?

Cheers mate, yeah I did like having the 18" on but due to the PS2's being 6 years old and having done umpteen track days, they were SHOT TO BITS and were pretty lethal to drive around on LOL

I had dropped the Miswah at the store and then parked, took pic and jumped back in so luckily could keep an eye on her

'Ring times say the M3 is quicker but on the road I think you would be hard pressed to beat a tuned 335d. I said earlier in the thread. It would take a very good driver in the M3 to beat a average driver in a mapped 335d.

The 335d's performance is just sooooo accessible.

I rung up loads and looked at a few and it was the best one I looked at.

you can pick up a shitter for peanuts yeah, but will need money spent on it. Thats the only prob.

I do love the colour combo. It does look ace in the flesh

I do not know the whole spec of the car, what I do know it has is.

Bluetooth
Sat-Nav
TV
Harman Kardon stereo
19" alloys
full electric memory seats
Isofix anchors

etc so its pretty well spec'd. I was lucky in the fact it was a local car from my local dealer and always serviced there also. 2 previous owners also.

Looks great Carlos. The E46 is still a great looking car in most 'sport' flavours. I um-ed & ah-ed over one a couple of years ago but plumed for the 330i at the time.

You planning on taking it down to Evolve? They remapped my E46 M3 and it was well worth it, really surprised how much extra they got out of it
