i am going to be spending the night in front of the Apple store (or one of the big Cingular stores) on Thursday June 28th, to get an iPhone the next morning (Friday)

i know there has to be an e90poster just as crazy as me, that will do it with me!

I did that for the PS3- it was crazy.
I couldnt sleep that night and had work at 10 the next day. Didnt get out til about 8:30. I was tired, sleepy, hungry, and had to go to work. lol

Knowing how these things work from my years in Consumer Electronics retail it would probably be a good idea to pick up a few and sell a few on ebay! Bet they run out quick and you could sell them for $1K or more on day 2. They'll probably be out of them for a good 2 months!

no you don't have to have a contract to buy it. You can buy it outright for the full retail price. Signing a contract/upgrade/new service allows for a discount, but i'm thinking since these phones are going to be hot, there won't be a discount for a few months.

BTW, if anyone can get me a iphone before release date, I'm willing to pay good money for it (wayyyy above $1k). I'm sure it'll be what you can make off ebay. I can't release any detail, but I need one before release.

As long as the phone is unlocked then you can just put your sim card in it. Thats what I did when I sent to Spain, I used my phone(which I unlocked myself) and added a sim card I bought it Spain..... worked great and I didnt have to pay the high priced fees from Cingular.
