335i vs. 335is

How you doing,

I'm having a hard time deciding in what to do,
First, thinking whether to get:

2012 e92 M3 BASE (no options) or go with a 335i or 335is loaded, thinking of doing ED.
OR just get a couple year used e92 M3 with plenty options

now My question here:

What are the significant differences between the 335i and 335is besides the ~30Hp increase? is it really worth the extra $7K+??
(did a search couldn't find any info)

thanks for your input!

Have you driven any of them to compare? I would go with the used m3.

I would say go with the used M3 ..
.. the 335is i would only go with if you want a new car and will not mod it at all - I wouldn't consider this as an option

As I own both an 10 M3 and an 11 335i, one thing to keep in mind is the significant upkeep costs that the M3 will incur above and beyond the 335's. Depending on how you drive, desire to mod, etc, that should also be considered. The upfront cost of a used M3 vs a new 335 would be similiar. In my opinion, the 335is has a high cost premium for what you get.

335is is using the N54, not N55 like the 335i as well as an optional DCT.

Is 2012 n55? BMW site says twinpower turbo indicating n55 and I haven't seen any information for the 2012 models.

I also feel the 335is is over priced, by a few thousand at least.

That I'm not sure about.

Edit: Looking at Wiki only the N54 article mentions the is and stops at 2011.

Edit2: bmw.ca says "Twin Turbo DOHC I-6" for the specifications of the 335is

Stripped M3 with only the Comp Pack is > any 335i IMO

And the 335is is worth the extra $ IMO

If you option out a 335 with Msport, the performance upgrades and 313 wheels, the iS is a cheaper option for the same car since the 313s are a $$$ option on a 335i build. The iS also gives you the N54 instead of the N55 on the 335i.

With my elevation, the NA M3 only makes ~300hp, and ~200lbs of torque. With turbos the iS will make the same power, and ~340lbs or torque. If I lived at sea level,I would probably get an M3.

i wouldnt consider the 335is... its essentially an already modded 335i, and for that BMW charges you an additional $7000? for what? more aggressive styling, slightly louder exhaust, and 30hp?

you can easily buy a 335i take that $7000 and mod it yourself properly;
- get the same body as the 335is.. (or even m3 with replica bumpers and side sills)
- tune the car to make more power than the 335is
- get the bmw performance exhaust which is better and louder than the 335is
- get upgraded suspension

AND the most important of all.. you will have FUN doing all these mods yourself, not something you will get if you just pay BMW to slap everything on your car and charge you more for it. just my opinion, but part of the fun in owning a 335i is making it better over time.

I was at a dealer yesterday and the 2 were side by side... Comp package M3 was only 2k more than the IS.... I feel like I'm getting ripped off by buying the IS.. Either get the M3 right above it, or pick up a 335i and you can dump the premium charges for the IS and have a nicely modded 335i that will smoke that 330hp IS

The 2012 IS is an N54. It has more then 30hp on the 335i. My dyno runs stock on 93 octane are 312/314whp. Torque also run up to 370ftlbs. If you want to add a tune it has a good base with the additional cooling package that is standard. Mine is stock with a just JB4 & does 365whp on a dyno.

The actual premium over an equally equipped 335i is about $2500

BTW have put down three M3's so far two V8's & one i6.

If you pay $68k for an iS, you need to hire someone else to do your car buying.

OP is interested in doing Euro Delivery... the price should be in the low 50's if you go that option and work with a dealer that understands ED pricing and doesn't take advantage.

There are so many factors to consider with this in my mind.

How much do you want to mod? If the answer is "A lot" then get the 335 over the IS. If you don't plan on modding, the IS is a nice choice over even a fully loaded 335. It has quite a few things in the package.

With that said....I think you should get an M3 if at all possible over either of the above.....always better than a 335...IMO

U have any pics of ur wheels painted gloss black? I have an IS too and was thinking of doing the same.

And for OP, I love my IS! I think the looks and few extra features you get with the premium they charge is worth it. U can get used ones now in pretty reasonable prices
