Physical Differences: M3/335i

So I've been looking for some side by side pictures of a 335i and an M3 and just can't seem to find any to compare differences..from what I can tell it's just the body pieces right? Any length / height / width differences?

The reason I ask is I'm really interested in getting a hold of a 335xi in my area but love the sporty look of an M3. front bumper, the hood, and the trunk being the three main points I would be interested in trading out on the 335xi.

Perhaps this is a stupid question, either way, I want to know.

wow. someone looking to get advice and into a bimmer and he gets insults. Help the man or move along guys. Not everyone was born a body specialist on bmw's.

To the OP. As stated, the M3 is wider so your front fenders, rear quarters, front bumper, rear bumper and side skirts will all be wider and different from a non m3. Hood is different as well. sedan and coupe use the same lights as the standard coupe. Side mirrors are different too. A host of other accompanying body parts are also different.

You cannot just swap parts straight over. You will have to change out fender liners and a variety of other pieces. Not too cheap but many have done it.

Hmm, okay. There's a bunch of m3 rep pieces made for the 335i I assume? With a little more digging I did find that, like you said, the M3 is 1.5in wider. Swapping would've been easiest but that's okay. I really appreciate reinforcing the differences I was already looking at! Thanks again!

I don't think you said if you are looking at a coupe or sedan. I don't think there is a rep m3 rear for the coupe. The rest of the parts you can find easily with the exception of the front fenders with m3 side marker but most people find that to be over the top.

Most hoods are made of carbon fiber as well. You can find some in FRP. The one piece that is pretty much a straight swap is the side view mirrors.

Might have gotten better responses if he had posted in the correct forum or bothered to search the internet or forum...

To answer your question, there are plenty of people that have done e92 (3-series coupe) to M3 conversion, requires new front/rear bumpers, fenders, sideskirts as well. You should look at getting an m-sport 335xi, it would be simpler than doing a conversion.

As far as the conversion, here is the part number list..

they make rep bumpers that would work. sedans don't have the same headlights as coupes, but similar bumpers. you can buy one that will fit either - sedan or coupe non-m3's

you kinda answered your own question i think?

m3 is wider, has different front bumper, rear bumper, sideskirts, hood, mirrors, and has a spoiler.
