JB4 installed, now no start

Like the title says, I installed it but the car cranks and no start. Leads me to believe that I plugged one of the male jb4 connectors in backwards to the OEM harness. Can anyone provide me with detailed close up pictures of how the connectors connect to the original harness? The installation guide was confusing (the term "passenger side" and then "right side" were used to describe positioning) along with the "black wires" (they were black wires on both ends!) that prob caused the mixup for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That's the one I'm looking at and used for the installation, step 8 is the confusing part. The instructions state "black wires towards the passenger side"- this required me to twist the harness all the way around. Even in that picture- the black wires are facing the drivers side (you can tell by the position of the red harness wires on the right in the pic). This is where I got confused. I ended up following the picture and the black wires face the driver side.

I'll try reversing that first.

I'm in Rosslyn- it would be much appreciated if I can't get it going by tomorrow. Drinks as payment?

I will post back here tonight after I get a chance to mess w/it. I can build an effin engine and rebuild a transmission- but can't install simple wires. Who woulda thunk it?

Thanks!

Just remember that on the original BMW connectors there are arrows molded into the plastic that indicate which way they're supposed to slide into the plug housing. The JB harness uses those same connectors, BUT the arrows go on OPPOSITE sides. So when you take the JB harness with male pins sticking out, align all the pins and make sure the arrows on those are on opposite sides.

Its the power wire.
If you messed up a subconmector the car would start and throw codes/ limp mode.
If it wont start its power wire

Ya its a connector in the wrong spot. Email me a pic of the ECU area and I am sure I can spot it for you

Did you do the last orange/red power wire correctly? Its easy to plug it into the wrong slot if you did not mark it before you pulled the factory wire off to make the connection.

That will give you a crank not start condition. Don't ask how I know.

Actually no Without the power wire the car starts fine as the JB4 is off and on bypass mode. Its mixing up the sub connectors that usually prevents the car from starting. Unless of course the power wire was placed in the wrong spot in the little green box.

As always if there are issues its bet to email BMS or myself for help. It usually leads to a quick resolution. We are here to help, so take advantage of our customer service!

Did you unplug everything at once? That seems to confuse people really easily. If you just do one connector at a time, and pay attention to the arrows then everything is really simple.

Send a message via AIM to Jeff@TopGearSolutions
Just do one harness at a time. Make sure you get the right orientation of arrows. Pay attention to the details.

About the arrows on the oem connectors (harness)...

For clarification, facing the car and looking down at the JB Male connectors:

<-------- <---------
<-------- <---------

Is that how they should point after installed to the jb connectors? I'm almost positive I'm overthinking this and will be able to crank the car up after switching one of them over (detailed in step 8, 9 of the install guide (page 19)

BT is Bavarian technic tool. I think you should be able to clear the codes with the JB4 before you start it.

i'll let others chime in to validate this
