O2 Spacer instead of DP fix?

Anyone tried this yet with the N54's?
I am looking for a solution to the CEL when i have to take my car in and need to take the tune out.
I am trying to avoid anything in the ECU box so i dont raise any suspicion if they did open it up by chance.

I have used these spacers in the past and they worked, just not sure if we have enough room or if it will even work. Basically all the spacer does is raise the O2 sensor out of the exhaust flow so you dont get a accurate flow reading of the exhaust gases.

Anyone tried this?

we've installed them on m3's, i doubt there would be enough room for that on a 335 dp, but they make them that are 90 degree bends to them so the sensors would be in line with the downpipe, that MAY work, but i can't say for sure. they are cheap enough, give it a try, would be a better solution to dealer visits because there would be no evidence of tampering in the ecu compartment

It's worth a shot, where do you get them? (The angled ones.)

Exactly, i think the only issue is basically room. I think ill just buy a few different styles anyways and see if they work.
Also, apparently NAPA sells them. Look for a spark plug non-fouler (aka spark plug defouler)

Heres a image of a angled spacer for anyone curious.
I am sure ebay would have millions FS.

I've used the "Wayne blocks" on my audi's. I'm on my phone and don't have a pic, but a quick google will bring it up. They are 90 degrees and I've never had an error running them.

As kevin said I'm not sure if there is enough room. you may also need to get some slack in the o2 sensor, be cautious when installing as you dont want to ground out the sensor on the chassis. After that its the luck of the draw if it works.

you will probably get signal codes. the 02 sensors on this car are very sensitive little buggers.

i did this on my truck... works great if there's enough room and BMW is not too sensitive.

I had them on Fords, and GM along with the radio shack built one. It worked about 95% of the time in my WRX. I had catless exhaust on my 00 M5...never worked. I just figured BMWs were more sensitive.

I used one of those on my previous WRX STI without a problem, worked amazing.

I installed one on the 335i when I first got my downpipes and still threw codes. I guess BMW's are just more sensitive.

Guys, these ideas were tried many years ago when the N54 came out. Failed every single time.

So i guess there is no point in even trying then. I searched, but didnt really find any results for a O2 spacer on the forum.

I am going to be putting my DPs on soon and just figured it would be a easy way to permanently remove the CEL(if it worked of course).

I think to even get it to fit, ill have to use the 90deg ones.

If you have the more popular tunes you dont need a downpipe fix. JB4 PROcede Cobb. Downpipe fix is only for people that dont have tunes or if there flash tune doesnt remove the CEL.

Supposedly a donwpipe fix is needed for readiness, I'm not 100% certain if it actually works or not. It's best to email BMS on that.

BTW OP I re-read your first post I missed the part about taking tune out and going to dealer. I understand now.

dpfix will allow you to set readiness and pass emissions where they plug into your obdII port. a piggyback tune w/ auto clearing, even cobb tune, will not pass emissions with catless downpipes. you need the dpfix

First of all, you MUST have the dp fix to pass readiness. I know forum members who went in with just cobb installed and failed readiness. I also know forum members who had the dp fix and passed readiness.

Second, there is very little space for a spacer. However, i know VAC has installed a couple custom made ones and those customers seem to have no problem with it. That being said, it's really much easier and cheaper to go with the dp fix.

interesting alternative, but the dealer can tell very quickly if you have DPs or not. Sound is a dead give away. Am I missing something?
