Changed of heart!

I posted earlier that I was goin to look at a 330i msport coupe but I've now decided to go for the 335i msport saloon !!

I've found one local so goin to look tommz

2007, black, full heated black leather , full bmw service history 76000 .

Any thing I should look out for ? Any known faults?

Apart from the normal things like recalls, warranty work, service etc. Be sure to start it from cold (dead cold) and see if there is a loud metallic rattling noise coming from the drivers side of the engine bay for the first 30-45 secs as the idle calms. If so it has knackered wastegates and the turbos will need replacing.

this will be a problem with most 335i's this age that havent already had replacements.

Good choice, coupes are for girls

IMO the E90 335i is the bad boy of the model range...

A few things to look out for engine wise on a 335i:

1. Has it had a new High Pressure fuel pump under warranty?
2. Ditto injectors & coil packs
3. Turbo rattles leading to turbo replacement will be costly - have they been done?

Get copies of the service history receipts and call the actual dealers who did it and see what else they have on record for the car, as most dealers don't give paperwork for warranty works so you can't tell.

With it having BMW full service history would it have had all these recalls done do u think?

Yes I am bit worried bout this turbo rattle as I've heard it big labour time and a big bill! Was this a recall ?

Thanks for ya replays

There not recalls as such. They will just replace them if they fail under warranty. If they havent been replaced, the bills can be significant.

When u say warranty do u mean the three year warranty ya get when the cars new ?

As this is a 2007 reg

So suppose they wouldn't just do it for this car free as not a recall?

I'm not sure where I stand if it develops this problem

If the car has a full BMW service history BMW will usually cover the cost of parts and you have to pay the labor (which is still expensive). Alternatively you get the BMW warranty and they pay the lot. The choice is yours, stick 600+ in the bank every year and hope that if something breaks after 3 years 1800 covers it, or get the warranty and not have to worry.

All the advice about warranties etc are valid, but don't be put off buying a 335i. I think your struggle to find a bad review of the 335i anywhere!!

I run mine without a warranty since it's modified, and I certainly don't go to sleep worrying about what could fail or go wrong (The previous owner had the injectors replace under warranty 3 years ago). I'm starting to learn to work on various bits of the car my self, need to work up the courage to tackle brake/suspension stuff this year. This isn't really to save money, more just the fact I'm just keen to learn how bits on the car work ....I should add I have no plans on selling the car for the foreseeable future so really not bothered about getting service book stamped.

Enjoy your new car .

its too old and too high mileage to get any help from BMW if it needs the turbos doing so make sure you check that.

wouldnt worry about the fuel pump or coil packs if its got to 70+k miles it will have been done already or more likely wont need done. My one has done 185,000 miles on its original fuel pump never needed looked at.

I would definitely check through the servcing history and then call the dealers its been looked after by and see what else they can tell you (recall and warranty work).

These cars are fantastic value, between 3 of us we own 3 x 335's, mine is the highest mileage at 185,000, Nicks has done 88,000 and Steves only 55,000 none of us have bothered about having any warranty we just use local specialist and so far no large bills, dont be put off by what you read!

Find another 300+ bhp RWD car that can do 30 mpg, is only 5 years old and costs 10k!

If a Coupe is on your radar I'd try and stretch for one. You get more kit for you .

Also a late 2008 onward model will get you the later idrive with the HDD (much quicker)

What is your budget? Beware the early saloons have 460 tax, all coupes are 270.
There are tonnes of 335i's, even in dealers if you are willing to pay the 2k or so premium or wait for them to get desperate/haggle. Don't pay face value, a grand should be an easy knock off.

Are you sure all coupes are 270 a year? I thought early ones were 460?

Well I shouldn't have said all I meant most, early plate coupes I looked at were 270 though, Maybe its luck of the draw? Or the dealer was just getting it wrong. Probably the latter as I thought early ones were 228g/km.

What a depressing end to a thread, end up with 4 cyclinder oil burner with over sized wheels! Keep looking for a 335 and when you find a good one take it for a drive.

I recently purchased a 335i. My search results were limited, as my criteria was to have warranty on the car.

I now pay 56 a month to BMW for warranty. Sure, it's expensive, but it's peace of mind.

Also, as the previous owner had maintained the warranty since new, I felt assured that any outstanding issues would have been rectified by him.

Incorrect. My '07 Coupe is 460.

It dropped at '57.
