Ditto. I tried this too. While the added noise was great, the extra dirt and reduced power was not. I have since switched mine back to stock. For now.

Ok amigos I used the Amsoil Microfiber Filter and the car ran smoother and you could hear the rumble a little bit, As far as gains barely noticeable but the car responded far better than before. As far as the ICs right now in german boost there is a thread on this and I am aware. NicK@Wagner-Tuning in this site has something going for the 135 and 335i if not mistaken I sent him a note and awaiting his response as far as the "D" and a possible IC, I looked at his IC and by far BETTER looking than Cx Racing heres the link: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=709129

For got to tell you another way to have more air to come in using your OEM intake is to go to mod bargains and look up the scoops the have but at $109 I believe its not worth it although these scoops are made for gassers i believe it might help our "D's"

I'm looking at one of these KN apollo's mentioned earlier, purely for the improved sound: http://www.knfilters.com/universal/apollo.htm

will it still suffer from reduced power / dirt even though its got a hose?
cheers

I'm running an open-filter intake, although I did have a heatshield (it sits very flush with the body/hood) fabricated and installed. I'm not sure about the guys running a filter only, but I havent noticed any loss of power. Also, maybe because my open filter is more or less sealed off, I dont notice any extra dirt around the filter or in the "compartment" where the cone filter now sits.
