Sudden Loss Of Power

So I jus recently got my car and today while on the highway I had a nice opening on the highway. I gave the car some gas in 2nd gear and at around 6,000 rpms the car had a complete loss of power and the service engine soon came on. I can tell the car was in limp mode so I continue to drive. About a mile or so later the service engine soon light turns off and the car seems back to normal. I give the car some normal driving and maybe 10 miles or so after I push 2nd gear again and the var reacted normal. I gave it a few pulls in 1st 2nd and 3rd all seems fine.

Is this normal ?

Since I recently bought the car I also got all the service records and I know at around 2010 the first owner replaced the fuel pump already when the car had 8,000 miles.

Advice please.

I had the same problem a few months back. How many miles on the car? BMW diagnosed my issue as carbon buildup. I had walnut blasting done and not only has it been problem free, but also feels a bit crisper with better fuel mileage as well.

+1, they have a sticky on this board:

1. check your spark plugs for wear.
2. check your ignition coils for wear.
3. check your injectors for wear.
4. check your intake values to see if carbon cleaning needs to be done.
5. check your vanos solenoids for wear.

my car had step #1 - #4 done. it is definitely running a lot smoother. the acceleration is so smooth I don't think my tune exists anymore.

Could be anything.
Spark plugs, coils, injectors, fuel pump, carbon build up.

Need to see the codes too.

Did your exhaust make any noises ? Cause when I start my car from a cold start I get a noise like there is something in my muffler. But once the car warms up it's fine

Thanks for the advice guys. The car didn't act up today do I guess that's a good sign. I'm going to try and bring it to the dealership this weekend.

The code will still be there right even though the service engine soon light isn't on at the moment ?

went to the dealership today and the verdict was:

Bad fuel injector.....They changed out 3 fuel injectors for me evn though only 1 was bad. They said that is normally standard for them.

Having similar troubles with mine, seems like a lot of people are having misfire spark, injector, coil issues atm.

Cold start my car sounds very loud, and the engine missions symbol comes on, it warms up and clears soon after.

If you use your car without leaving it overnight it most likely will drive fine, but it probably is a coil/solenoid issue.

I suggest checking all of Achien said 1-5, and if neebe replace all.

That's good news.

Why not ask them a cheeky question. Did they re code new injectors? Did they put in new decoupling elemens? In early days not all dealers did this.

Had the same thing happen to me...
Pull the codes
Misfire is most likely the case... Dealership replaced injectors & plugs under warranty...

Experience the same issue when on highway last week, give it gas, check engine light comes on and car shakes quite violently. Able to hold speed though. Brought in thinking it was HPFP they said it wasn't and replaced the low pressure fuel sensor. 3 hrs after getting car back the exact same issue occurs again now this time they are replacing 3 of my fuel injectors. Get car back tomorow morning. Not too optimistic. Will update though.
