Question Whos Got A GoPro? Pros & Cons....

Been shopping the GoPro. I believe I will pull the trigger on the Hero3+ tomorrow. They are in stock at Best Buy.

While looking, I came across the Black series which caught my eye.... I know a few of you guys use these on a regular basis.. Any info you could provide would be great!?

Pros & Cons plus Does & Don'ts.. Also, Are you happy with your purchase and what accessories would you recommend other then the suction mount.....?

Thanks for the help

I had a hero 2, and due to a software glitch it got bricked. They have an amazing customer service though so they quickly sent me a new one. I don't know about the hero 3+ though but my hero 2 has been well worth the money. Only accessories I got are the suction cup mount and battery backpack.

I have a 3 black, battery life sucks on all them, like 30 minutes at 60 fps, get the extended add on battery bacpac, brag bag of mounts is handy or get the mounts you need, suction is good for the car!

I have the HD 2 and I personally had high expectations for the GoPro but for some reason I'm not to satisfied with it.

Pros-Awesome to have a camera that can be mounted anywhere, suggest you get different angle accessories. Battery life I have no issue so good for long rides and filming what you need just edit the video once you're done. Daytime footage is great so therefore the quality is great.

Cons-To much noise from the wind, barely hear your car's engine, BOV, exhausts and etc. Nightime footage is decent but due to the light in the area that's what you get as expected. No control to turn on/off unless you are doing it by hand so I'd get the HD 3 with the wireless control.

HD 3 has more options, I'd get the LCD screen, the battery upgrade and possibly the black to narrow it down to the T.

Right . . . all GoPro's automatically come with limited accessories which suction cups are one of them. Of course pending on where you mount them is where you decide if you need more as I've done. I read your other post so yes definitely the battery upgrade lol Small fortune is an exact term I'd use for the GoPro but worth it. Of course it has multiple use other than just one so it pays off in the long run

PM me if you need any Go Pro products. I have access to both the Hero 3+ Black and Silver versions. I'm not a vendor but can help out fellow members with slightly competitive pricing for brand new units, not stolen, 100% legit. Let me know!

Has anyone tried something other then the GoPro with good results? I feel like its the go to brand in portable/mounted video, just curious if something a bit cheaper performs the same, or something a little more expensive has better sound recording

Tried out a HyVid Extreme from Drivedata this weekend. Ran at 720/60 for about an hour and a half total and the battery indicator is still 2/3 charged. Has a built-in LCD and comes with a bunch of different mounts although I used it on a Cruisecam. Works pretty well, no complaints really.

I love my GoPro, I get roughly 1.5hrs continuous footage, or about 4hrs of time lapse. Great film for day and decent night footage. The wind noise everyone complains about it is valid, but you can fix that by putting on an external mic, something I need to do.

I haven't looked at the other options recently but maybe look at those, I know sony makes a small camera.

I really like the hero 3. I have an Hero 2 with most of the mounts, suction cup mount, skeleton case, 32 Gb sd, and car charger (old garmin mini-usb). I use at the track and as a dash cam. With the skeleton case you can charge and record at the same time. I also suction cup it to my motorcycle anytime I am riding. I have clamped it to my roadbike, mountain bike, skateboard, made home movies, and even put it on my dog. You can clamp, stick, or mount it to just about anything. This is one of my favorite accessories.

Cons: wind noise, engine noise varies depending on location (Cayman S is midengine and I can get decent sound when mounted between the seats), battery life is around 3 hours.

I have a 3 black series.
I realize I don't need that and I can go with the white or silver because I don't use the extra display. I use my iphone via bluetooth.

I just purchased the hero3, memory card and the suction cup attachment from best buy. Due to the small fortune these things cost, I decided to wait on some of the other attachments. Thanks for the insight and advice guys!

What problem is that because the only difference between the 3 and 3+ is that the 3+ will record in 4k at a higher rate for the new TV's ....

I had all 3 GoPro HD. What sucks is battery life and sound quality. Inside the case, you will get a lot of crackling sounds in your video from mount/case movements. The 60fps video is great though.
The alternative would be the Sony action cam. I have 2 friends that have them and they like it a lot.

Apparently the sound quality increases dramatically. I have the White edition which is good enough for my purposes and was a gift lol. The built in WiFi is awesome though for putting the camera outside the car and starting and stopping footage whenever you want.

Get the GoPro car mount as well, its built well and once in place isn't moving.

I have the Hero 3 Black and love it. It takes great quality video and you can put it anywhere. Get the Wi-fi remote, this is a must!

Battery back pac will be pretty handy too as the battery life sucks. The LCD back pack is cool, but a smartphone with the GoPro App can do the same thing. Other than the suction cup mount, two of my favorites are the ride hero mount and chesty. The Chest mount is awesome for a lot of things.
