so does the real time traffic info thingy really work?

I mean I live in NYC... how fast is it in updating info...what sources does it use? I'm a little skeptical that it really works... what do you guys think?

Oh does it sure does man.......Its pretty damn quick too. Mine usually always alerts me when theres traffic ahead, how long the delay will be, and how many miles ahead, it even offers you a chance to take a detour.

Had a 335 loaner and experienced it. Worked pretty flawlessly.

I've had RTTI in my BMW since Jan. I ride I-287 from Rockland to Eastern Westchester daily. Sometimes the timing is a little delayed-backups notices that I get I can breeze through at 60MPH, and sometimes I hit a slowdown with no RTTI notification.

I will say that over the last month or so, this issue has been minimized.

The information is there, but it doesn't always re-route me... I like it nonetheless.

I've seen it update in as little as 2 minutes, and that was for some spontaneous accident I was approaching from a distance. Sometimes it takes longer, maybe 5-6 minutes. It does not consider surface road traffic yet, so it could potentially detour you onto even more traffic. Not perfect, but it works well enough for me to make it worth it. Presumably it will be improved at the end of the month, with the GPS info from various service vehicles. http://www.inrix.com/news.asp

It should if the delay is over a certain number of minutes. Forgot how many.

That is assuming that you are in guidance mode all the time.... but realisticly on my routine commute I just have the map on i-drive screen and from the arrows that appear on the road I can see there is traffic ahead...... I get no info on about the delay and how many miles ahead it is..... But then may be I am not using it correctly.....

I got around this problem my setting my home address as one of the 6 iDrive keys. When I'm on the way home, I just hit the button. I usually mute the voice, but the traffic info still pops up on the screen.

Works good in a metro area. At worst, it's way better than not having it!

Just remember, its only as good as your local radio stations. They are the ones who give out the updates...

I will say that this weekend while ont he expressway, i got a warning telling me stopped traffic ahead. to detour. Ive been on this road before and it always gets jammed for 1-2 minutes thenc lears up. So i ignored the Idrive... I was wrong. There really was stopepd traffic...

I have yet to use it during Guidance, but it's very nice having it always "on" when I am driving home on I-95. It's one of my favorite features in the car.

Works great! With or without a destination entered it shows you where the screw up are, and if it has a destination it's ability to squirrel you through back alleys is impressive.

Good Stuff, so long as it's new stuff. 25.01 is much much improved from previous.
