Car got Updated...2 days later, DEAD BATTERY... - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

Im posting cause I wanted to know if this happened to anyone else. Took my car in end of last week. Friday night went out to start my car, it wouldnt crank over. tried again, it worked. took it around the block to give it some charge.
Saturday tried to start car, wouldnt crank over again....finally did, took it to local BMW and they said my battery was shot. They replaced it, under warranty, but Im just wondering what the heck happened to it. The car was fine b4 the update (which is latest, matches all photos of latest update), so what did they do to my car?
Any suggestions? Happen to anyone else?

I hope coincidence is all it was. Dont want to have to worry about it all the time. The car is too new for that.
What would cause the battery to fail after 9800 miles on a car?

ONly way to tell is to measure the current draw when the car is sitting idle. Should be a few milliamps at the most.

its been HOT up here, when the vehicle is programming, the battery is put on a charger maintaining the battery voltage above a specified level, typically i see it at around 13-14v, when a battery is charging (chemical reaction taking place) the battery will get hot, and therefore with the extreme heat that we've had in the area, along with the chemical reaction, may cause some damage to a battery. i have never seen a battery go dead due to programming, but the theory is there, that maybe you had a defective battery the entire time, and the heat built up allowed it to completely fail.

batteries need to be maintained. it is bad for the battery for a car to sit around for days at a time. If your the kind of person that does not put a lot of miles on your car you should hook up your car to a battery charger. A LACK OF MILE CAN VOID YOUR WARRANT ON THE BATTERY. must have at least 700 miles a month. I know this because i work for a bmw dealer ship.

This happened to my dad's 530xi too... except didn't kill it, only made it so the battery won't charge.

So car will start, but the clock, and all functions are lost as soon as the car's off.

His car has been in the shop all week for it
