Warning for cheap coding cables using fake FTDI chip & new drivers

FTDI released via Windows Updates new drivers for their converter chips.
They identify fake chips and brick them by setting a the device PID to 0000
This will make the device listed as unknown in device manager, the correct PID is 6001

Here is some further reading:

I bought my cheap cable via DX, it works fine and I have not installed the updated drivers on it.
Just wanted to post a heads up warning so you know to be on the lookout for this.
FTDI did change their mind and have now taken down the driver, but of course there is no telling how many have installed it...
If you want to see some more high-res pics of my cable you can go here (requires registration though)

Thank you for posting this, I was always confused why the cables that look like the one you pictured wouldn't work for me and now it's clear. Will automatic windows updates remove this driver or am I stuck with it? Genuine FTDI chips aren't overpriced but I guess there's no limit to how cheap a Chinese manufacturer will go.
