White Smoke After Downpipes

Hello, I just installed VRSF DP and now I see white smoke coming out of my exhaust which i never saw before the DP.

I mainly see it at idle.

Is this normal or am I in need of some new turbos?

Your turbos are most likely blown.

No it's not.

If you mean that having blown turbos is normal then maybe. A lot of people have blown turbo seals and don't know it because a lot of the time it won't effect performance.

Man this sucks that blown turbo seals are common.

I agree. Can't expect much from two tiny turbos though. They weren't made to be running the 15+ pounds of boost you get from a tune.

Blue smoke means turbo seal problems, not white. I find it stupid to just jump like this without doing some basic reading.

I find it stupid to comment unless you've experience the problem first hand. I had blown turbo seals and the smoke was white, not blue.

Is this the white smoke you speak of?

Its white smoke, but its not water vapor.

When I come to a stop light, my car is cover in smoke and it smells like a 2 cycle engine. The smell of burning oil.

Turbo's blown? We're sort of jumping to drastic conclusions here guys.

Just take it back to stock and bring it to the dealer or remove the DP's and look for the oil leak yourself.

I just installed some VRSF DP's yesterday. I had sprayed some WD40 up there to get the bolts loose. I havent really driven the car much since the install, but I did notice some smoke coming up from the engine bay, havent looked at the exhaust though. I think the smoke from the engine bay was from all the WD40 I had sprayed up there. It wasnt much, but doesnt look like anything serious. I'll check later today when i get home if theres any smoke out the exhaust.

sounds likes it could be injectors too, had a similar problem, it looked like vapor on the ground and smelt like fuel, i changed my injectors and the problem was fixed, i would not assume its the turbos right away.

I installed back my stock exhaust which has a catalytic converter on it, and no more smoke. Still have the dp installed.

I believe the catalytic converter was filtering all of the burnt oil.

Any other ideas why the smoking suddenly stopped after putting back my stock exhaust?

well then i dont think its the turbos if the smoke went away when you put the original pipes back.

Don't jump to conclusions. However, it's common that people see smoke after going catless since the stock cats cover up existing smoke. I would say, if you have an aftermarket closed exhaust, and you get blueish white smoke only out of 1 tail pipe, it's probable that you blew a bearing seal.

I had the same problem after I went catless, I guess the cats was masking the symptoms. It progressively got worse, when the car was standing still tons of white smoke and smelled like oil burning, if I let it sit long enough I had oil coming out of my left pipe. I replaced the turbos, and sure enough the seals ere busted

What is your reasoning for this? Thanks

I would think the catalytic converter on the exhaust is filtering the smoke that is produced from the burning oil.

I had several cars with catless setup and I never had this much smoke to the point where its surrounding my car and the near by cars. It smells like burning oil.

If its not the turbo then my car has other serious issue.
