I would guess BMW has tested all ranges of tuning on this engine and has settled on the current specs because:
1) It's the fastest, most powerful non-M 3 series ever (by alot) at 300HP 2) It is remarkably fuel efficient at the current setup 3) It is probably at it's most reliable at this "tune" 4) It doesn't compete HP number-wise (on paper) with either the outgoing M3-series or incoming M3-series Certainly they could've increased boost and all those fancy things you guys know about, but why? They probably wouldn't have increased sales that much, and they may have increased warranty claims in their eyes (who knows?). Of course, this is all guessing. All I care about is that the Procede under my hood makes my car fun. Giddy up!

I am not nervous running a piggyback, I was nervous installing it for the first time.

It still makes sense to detune the 335. THink about it, why offer a NA 3 liter that only produces 230 HP in the 328, when BMW already has a 260 HP version (272 in EU)? It's not like they have reliability issues with the extra HP, but it's a marketing concern. M vehicles are not to ever be turbocharged from the factory. As much optimizing that has gone into the NA engines, it is still possible to produce more power, but there is a difference for a company that warrants its work and offers other variants of its product versus the small amount of people that modify vehicles.
The concerns of modifying a 50k USD car is what makes it so easy for BMW to detune the 335 and sell a 4 liter V-8 powered M3. If nobody in their right mind would modify such an expensive vehicle as the 335i, then those with the right mind and financial means will be lining up to sign on the dotted line for an M3. So, either wait for the warranty to expire or find a cheaper automobile that you won't mind modifying if modifying is your goal. The other option is to spend more dollars on a more expensive vehicle that has the performance targets you desire. I personally would like more power than stock, regardless of car, so if my financial situation gets better, I'll just modify a more expensive car. ![]() |

Do NOT put on a turbo timer! If you
the thousands of posts on this board the car already has one built in. The water pump keeps running after you take out the key and walk away. Simple waste of money

AFAIK, the turbos on the 335i are oil AND water cooled, just like on my Subaru.

Truth is, Shiv, like every single other tuning business, has had unsatisfied customers. Some of those unsatisfied customers are louder than others. Some tuners are geniunely not very good at what they do. But you don't get to be around as long as Shiv has and have as much scrutiny and coverage (I believe Shiv did an Evo for C&D to race) and put out garbage products. That said, just because Shiv is pretty good at what he does doesn't mean you are not going to have a screwup. It also doesn't mean that if you have a real problem with your car but you are modded that BMW won't decline your warranty work. You gotta pay to play. I say that if you are going to mod your car at all, you have to be prepared to replace an engine or transmission (hopefully not both at the same time).

The de-tuning is perhaps for marketing & future models.
BMW has invested a lot of money developing this engine & they could release "new enhanced 335i & 535i models" in a few years by using the same engine with higher HP & they don't have to design a whole new engine. It makes perfect sense for a company. |

After tax and everything I walked out for $45650 or was it $46560?
I got mine with every option that they offer exept the rear shades that come up I paid 500 over their invoice. Buddy of mine his girlfriend or friend is the Finance Manager, and she hooked me up more than big. They told me it was the first E90 335 with 6speed and Nav in California but who knows. only thing i got out of the sports package was the Seats..other than that i took the suspension and wheels off. |
