Hey guys, I'm pretty conscious of protecting my leather seats from harmful rays and always have them covered in some way. However through the years they have what I can describe as "dry spots". If I rub the areas affected by these dry white patches with my bare hand or a conditioner like Meguiars it goes away for a day of so but that dry appearance comes back. How can I moisture my car's leather seats? I've tried different brands to no avail.

4/29- Finally got around to taking pics. These are the spots where I'll rub some Meguiars leather conditioner over it and it will conceal it for a couple days and then come back.

My seats look awesome. Got rid of all the dull spots in the pics. I'll follow up to let you guys know if it lasts.

What have you tried so far?

Is there a chance the protective top coat may have worn away on these "dry spots"? Any pics of the "dry spots"?

Hydrated – when leather tanner’s talk about conditioning leather they are referring to its moisture content, re-hydration is used to restore or maintain fluid balance (transpiration and evaporation of moisture); not the replenishment or replacement of the fat liquoring, oils and / or waxes.

Water molecules are smaller than the molecules found in polyurethane top coats, so it can permeate the finish in vapour form. This is essential to restore the suppleness and maintain leathers natural flexibility and keeps the leather at its optimum physical performance level, along with softness and strength.

Modern finished leather needs to be kept hydrated with moisture to ensure the leather remains flexible and maintains its soft tactile feel. This is done by regularly wiping the surface with a damp 100% cotton micro fibre towel and by using aqueous (water- based) leather care products. There is no reason to use oil-based leather care products to condition or feed leather hides

The Leatherique Prestine Clean and Leatherique Rejuvenator Oil combo is always a great combo that I've used on leather with great results.

I just tried the Leatherique system. It works pretty well, but is a bit of a hassle to use. Several applications are needed for best effect. It does soften and hydrate the leather pretty well.

When I run out I am going to splurge on some Swissvax products and see if they really are that much better.

I tried Zaino Brothers - don't bother. It doesn't work very well, and the supposed leather scent stinks. Even worse they charge outrageous amounts for shipping a couple of small bottles (the shipping was almost as much as the product). It works no better than anything on the shelf at Pep Boys for much cheaper.

Try the Leatherique. Just be prepared to use a couple of rounds (rejuvenator followed by Pristine Clean) over a couple of days. If you do it right your leather will be softer AND look quite good.

I will report on the Swissvax system once I try it. I hear good things about their products, but they are mondo expensive!

Just did my fronts and arm rest with the 16oz Leatherique system. I had plenty left over (more than half) after doing both seats and the arm rest. On the light gray interior, the results are fantastic. Looks brand new. 2007, and seats were really grimy.

Really I never heard of applying those steps more than once each?

If your leather is quite dry, you may have to apply it more than once. I bought my BMW as a CPO car that was 3 years old. It had obviously been well cared for and had few miles on it, except that the leather was pretty dry. I tried several things including the Zaino stuff to no avail. I read on a detailing forum about the leatherique, and the poster mentioned having to use two or more applications if the leather had not been well maintained for a while. Well, I did just that - rejuvenator overnight soak followed by pristine clean, then apply rejuvenator again, let it soak in overnight & then pristine clean again... my leather now looks & feels better than ever, and the difference from treatment one to treatment two was quite large as well. The people that make the stuff mention using multiple applications in one of their product sheets as well.

Anyway, that is the best I have been able to come up with for my Dakota leather. I may try the Swissvax in a few months.

Connolly Leather Care works real well. Its a cream and will take some work to work the cream into the leather, but once it's done it seems to last for quite a while. I have black leather interior so it is a pain to keep clean and moisturized.
