So my 18" wheels came today. I went back an forth for almost 2 months on what size to choose 18 vs 19. Hoping they don't look too small on my e90. I will be lowered on KW coilovers. Also live in PA and figured it would be a better choice for the roads. Any thoughts?

I went form 19's to 18's and love it. just lower it and you wont regret it.

I had a set of 19" e46 m3 fitment vb3's after I sold my M3 and I sold them to my friend to get style 219 oem e92 18's...just picked them up today and could not be happier! Super deep concave going on, agressive offset and with 255/35 in the rear it doesn't even rub!

I find anything more than 18's on e9x 3 series to be just too big, except of course for the M3. Also, I went from the oe sport 17's to the m3 18's and there's barely any difference in comfort to boot! 19's on non M e9x just doesn't leave enough tire, you'll have a very harsh ride and risk bending/cracking a wheel at any given moment.

The E9x wheel wells are pretty big... 18s still look like midge wheels. 19" is the perfect size IMO.

I would straight trade my 19s for 18s. I love the way they look but now I want to get back into 18s for track season and comfort.

Absolutely no regrets at all. My M3 came with the optional M Double Spoke 19s, and after driving it for a while I mounted the OEM M Double Spoke 18s instead. I think the performance, ride and appearance of the 18s are superior to the 19s.

All other things being equal (same wheel make, model, width, etc.), 18" wheels will ride better, handle better, accelerate better and brake better because they're lighter than 19” wheels. 18" tires also weigh less and are less expensive than 19" tires which are added bonuses.

Currently, I'm riding on stock 17''. It took me 2 months to decide between 18 and 19.
Somehow on 18'', tire portion is too much. I wanted to go low profile, so ordered 19''.
Rest is in the hands of Southern Jersey/Philly roads :-)

after reading many many 18s v. 19s thraed this is the bottom line:

19s look better and fit the car better.
18s ride and handle better.

Which do you want? "looks" or "performance" ?


(Yes, you can get both out of a wheel of either size - but it boils down to that: looks or performance... simple as that)

I love the looks of my 19"s but the ride quality took a hit. I think the ideal set up is to have 18"s for DD and winter time. And have a set of 19"s for show and summer. I was able to reduce the ride harshness by going to 285/30 R19 in the rear. I had 275/30 R19 and the tire was just to thin in the rear and I could feel everything on the road.

If i could do it over again I would have started with 18"s. But now I will just get another set of rims so I can swap em out once a year.

I don't have an E9x but I went from 19's to 18's and I loved it. Then I went from 18's to 17's and I loved it even more.

The 17" RFT on my E90 are worn out and I was thinking of replacing the RFT with non-RFT, but I've found a nice set of 18" with a good set of RFT on them for about what the new set of non-RFT tires alone will cost.

The 18's sure look nice-- looks too much like a girl's car with the stock 17's-- but I hate the ride with RFT. I'm sure the 18's will be even worse than what I have now.

Started with 18" and have NEVER regretted it!

I'm able to get an 18x8.5 front with 255/35 (wheel only weighs 17.8lbs) and 18x9.5 rear with 265/35 (wheel only weighs 18.5lbs). Saves about 10lbs per corner of rotational mass and you can feel the difference!
Get a set of wheels with the spokes going all the way to the lip. Difficult to tell they are 18".
Added sidewall helps quite a bit for rough roads.

Same as already said multiple times: Went from 19's to 18's and ride is better, performance is better, tires are cheaper. Doesn't look quite as good on stock height.

love my 19s, yea they're a bit harsher on the roads than the 18s but it doesnt really bother me just gotta be careful and swirve around those stupid potholes.. if you're planning on tracking your car at all go with the 18s
