HiFi Tweeters added to Base System

For anyone interested in this...... yesterday I added a pair of HiFi tweeters to my base system & what an improvement!

I'm no sound expert but even I noticed a big difference! The install was easy enough - you need to remove the door cards, so the pain is getting them back on!

It's a very cheap upgrade:

HiFi Tweeters: 2 x 24.11
Inner Seals: 2 x 8.05
Corner Mouldings: 2 x 11.58

I got the parts from BMMINIPARTS..... highly recommend this company - great service & very fast dispatch / delivery!

How about a write up of installation with part numbers? Sure would be a big help to anyone wishing to do this mod.

I fitted tweeters to my base set up I was recommended to fit the tweeters
B65136964013 X2 @ 47 each all I know is they are not the HI FI Tweeters, the covers for my E90 were B51337171201/202 @ 20.42 each.

They made a difference to sound quality , not massive, but definitely an
improvement.

I'd love to see an installation guide with a few pics - mainly as I'm a complete liability with this stuff

In terms of the tweeters, is there more than one variety of tweeter - am I looking for something specific? Are the L7 ones different?

Have previously looked at the Alpine kit, but with DAB that's not possible

HiFi Tweeters 65136964012

Top HiFi / L7 Tweeters 65136964013

On my set up I was advised to install the Tweeters ending 013, the more expensive ones !!!, don't ask me why, I just took the advice and ploughed on, I'm sure there are plenty of members on here who can give more technical help/advice

Did yo buy a cross over as well or are they already in the doors not used?

Wouldn't you be better off buying an aftermarket speaker that includes separate tweeters? You can pick these up for about the same price as the OEM tweeters.

Wouldn't aftermarket mids and tweeters be better quality than standard?

There aren't many options that fit in the E9x, so any cheaper component sets you do find may not be compatible (or may need some custom work to fit).

I'd be interested to see the full experience from the OP, links to the parts used, was a crossover used, etc.

Needing some highs in my base stereo too!!

The oem tweeters just plug into the mid range speakers in the door!

Buying better tweeters etc really is pointless unless you're going to install an amp in the boot!

This is just a cheap oem way to improve the Base sound! You will notice a difference.... but it won't be Alpine retro 250+ improvement!

With regards to the install - all you need to do is remove the door card (search it)! It's only 4 screws behind the trim & it pops off!

As Jammy said above, you only need to remove the screws behind the trim and then pry off the door card, I found it easier starting from the bottom end of the door closest the rear of the car and working around either side.

I managed to only have to fully remove the section nearest the tweeter and get my hand in the opening to insert the wire.

The original window moulding can be pull out at a 45 degree angle (with abit of a wiggle) and the replacement inserted in the reverse.

I'm in a similar situation, BUT, have replaced the HU and am running an amp.

SO, I already have a flat EQ curve, AND more power to feed the speakers. For now, I don't mind keeping the OEM speakers (I've already added a sub for bass), but need just a bit more on the highs.

Would this be a quick and easy fix for me then? Adding some OEM tweets? Do I need to worry about adding a capacitor, or can I just plug OEM tweeters directly into the OEM mids in the doors?

The amp is already running a HPF at 80-100Hz, which feeds all of my OEM speakers. I'm guessing the doors (and tweets if installed) would still have an HPF at approx 200Hz by the mid's capacitor.

Thoughts / comments?

Just done this mod, for once something that was much easier than expected!
Found a second hand pair of tweeters in their corner housing on eBay for 40 then read the guide below. Took 1hr including getting tools out & putting away, also would be quicker if I hadn't fecked about so much putting trim back in place.

http://www.billswebspace.com/e92DoorPanelRemoval.htm

As has been said, you don't need to fully remove door card. Working from door hinge end with all fixings, remove first 3 screws (+ 1 on door pull on passenger side) then first 2 bottom clips, 2 hinge side clips & then first 3 top clips. This will allow enough space to plug tweeter into door speaker.
Happys days!

Sounds great. I'm after doing this but struggling to find second hand parts.

Might just bite the bullet and get new from the dealer.

What are the part numbers for an e91 please?
Foam inserts
Side panels
L7 speakers

Thank you

send pm to Rudz.
I have removed windows + tweeter trim off his car which is surely for sale as he bought E92.
If your car is 2005-early 2007, foam inserts have space for the tweeters.

Don't bother to go for L7 speakers.

Rest, you'll require hi-fi tweeters only.

Ok, so the part number for the Hi Fi tweeters look to me to be:

65136964012 - I take it this is per tweeter (not too clear on www.online-parts.co.uk) It's coming up at 39.74

In terms of the foam inserts, I'm guessing I have those already reading from a few earlier threads? (2011 E92, Base System)

Finally - the 'triangles' I've got some conflicting info for this, firstly:

51337184197 and 8 (L and R) at 15.12 each, but then from another thread;

51337171201 and 2 (L and R) at 29.40 each. I presume this is for the E90, where I believe more than just the 'triangle' is required? On www.online-parts.co.uk it comes up as 'cover - windowframe'..?

Garage List
The e92 requires the "triangle", the e90 requires the whole window surround
