Date of Manufacturer Bonnet Sticker – What Exactly Does this Mean?

Hi All

The Date of Manufacture sticker on the underside of my E92 335d bonnet is JANUARY 2007.

Does this date represent the month the manufacturing of the car Started or the month it was Completed? Also, does anyone know how long, on average, a 335d takes to manufacture and deliver to a UK dealer?

I purchased the car on the 1st June 2007, which was a cancelled order. Am I correct in the assumption that the car had probably been sitting around in a storage compound in the UK for quite a few months before I bought it?

Not really a problem, but more curiosity question…

I would expect the build date is the month the build took place - some manufacturers usually place build week references but BMW seem to have a month. Maybe it takes them a month to build the car

Build sticker goes on as it comes off the line, so looks like it was a 'stock' car.

The thing that now kind of niggles me is that the dealer had sort of implied that the car had just become available due to it having just being canceled. They said that it was still somewhere in the “factory to dealer” transit process. At the time I did not think too much of it, but the car had 18 miles on the clock, which should have potentially meant more to me at the time…

The other niggle is that it is not the most current version of the car as it does not have the 6 programmable iDrive buttons and updated iDrive controller.

From what responses I have received it looks like it was definitely a stock car from the storage compound…

At the end of the day a good discount was secured and have also got the Progman software updated to 25.02 as well as having 2007-2 Sat Nav software.

Overall a fantastic car!

Doesn't really matter what the stickers says IMO. It's the reg that dictates the value of the car.
