Put on 30 miles / quarter of a tank of gas after oil change?

Is this normal at a BMW dealer?

tanks vary in dimensions... before sounding the alarm, please fill up and report back.

in comparison though the bmw tank vs my past cars has been pretty steady up till the last 1/4

ppp

edit: or are you saying dealer put 30 miles on your car and consume 1/4 tank of gas ? no its not normal for a 328 at a dealer.

sounds like they drove your car to high rpm for it to take that much gas. I get about 80 miles in 1/4 tank driving in city, and if I drive it hard, I say I can still get 50.

Or just let it idle. You should ask about it. Maybe they noticed a possible issue and were checking it out. Although you would think they would let you know if that happened.

It could also be that they put on 30 miles and added a 1/4 tank of gas.

If you also had a 30k mile Inspection done, that calls for a road test. But using 1/4 tank (4 gallons) of gas in 30 miles is hard to believe.

Someone is siphoning gas out of your tank...that's liquid gold nowadays. Should you tip the SA if this happens?

One time I dropped off my car full and got it back with 1/4 tank and nearly 300 mi. on the odometer. Normal? No, but it happens. The last visit in Dec., the mileage was the same as when I dropped it off, which indicates they pulled it in, and out, and nothing more.

Insanity... the last time I dropped my car off to a dealership, they crashed it into an 18-wheeler and totaled it. I say get to the bottom of it. Service technicians do joyride in cars.

So you have insurance fix it? Then this incident going to go on carfax... destroys the history of the car...

That's not normal. I would ask the service manager why so many miles when all it came in for was an oil change.
I used to be a tech for VW, we often put a few miles on cars after brake jobs and major services etc; but not that many miles.

I went to my dealer for some stuttering under acceleration and I got the car back with 1/3 of a tank gone along with 50 more miles on the car.
Also noticed that my rear tires had some extra wear. I had not checked the rear tires before dropping it off, so I can't prove it.

it is possible to burn 1/4 tank in 30 miles... think about it.. just drive around town in 1st gear... 6500rpm at 25mph. throw in some hard launches here and there, and turn on the A/C. 30 miles and 1/4 tank is very easy to accomplish.
