Cyba scoop install - e90 DIY

Alright guys and gals, I could not find a DIY but did find several people asking for one, so here is my first attempt at making a DIY.

This is pretty straight forward and easy to do. It took me about 15 minutes in the 100 degree Houston weather.

Here is how my e90 looks with the hood open and before the removal of any torx screws or panels.

First, I started by removing these two torx screws. You will need a Torx 25 to remove them. This will give you the ability to remove the grills.

Size: 183.4 KB
Next, you need to remove the air channeler (don't know the exact name, but that is what I am calling it)

Size: 192.8 KB
To do this, you need to remove the pin by grabbing the pin with a set of pliers and pulling straight upward. Then using a flat head screwdriver, get under the pin holder and pry it up and remove it.

Use will also need to remove the torx screw using a Torx15.

Size: 97.7 KB
Do this on both sides of the air channeler and then lift the air channeler out of the way.

Remove the grills.

Start with #3 on the grille removal DIY.

Size: 220.9 KB
Insert the Cyba scoops thru the grille opening like this.
Name: 010.jpg
Views: 14184
Size: 153.1 KB
Line up the holes for the push pin holder and push pin on the outer side of the scoop and the Torx 25 screw on the inner side.
Name: 011.jpg
Views: 12466
Size: 225.8 KB
Place the air channeler back in its original position and replace the push pin and the torx screw, while holding the scoop in place thru the grille hole. Make sure the push pin and the torx screw seat thru the holes on the scoop and tighten. Do this on both sides. The scoop should hold in place like this.

Size: 168.4 KB
Replace the grilles by reversing the removal process.

And you are done. Cyba scoops installed.

How are the scoops during rainy seasons? The splash from the cars ahead and speeding, any effect on the filter getting wet, decrease perf.?

Any noticeable increase of the filter getting dirtier quicker?

Since I live in TX, we have not had much rain since I put them in, so I can not honestly answer your questions. Might be a question you could ask in the forums though.

There is definitely an increase in dirt and bugs in the filter, no doubt. I have RPI scoops in mine and i pick up everything from dirt, dust, rocks, sticks, bugs, you name it... if this is something that bothers you, get some door screen[aluminum] (found at your local Home Depot) and apply it to the front - my preference was [red] zip ties with some super glue for extra strength. This cut all of that unnecessary debris.

I felt like an idiot at first trying to take those 2-part plugs out... i figured out by accident that there's a pin in the middle... i think because my car was so dirty at the time, i thought that it was one piece. A pic of this removal would be great for future reference.

**Disclaimer: if you have the carbon filter delete mod be extra careful what terrain you drive though (i.e. farm land, construction districts, etc.), many items can puncture your paper filter and/or your K&N filter and may cause extensive damage to your intake, throttle body, and internal engine components if your filter is not checked often enough**

Question: The two 'vents' in the air scoops... i don't understand the purpose... wouldn't air go through and lose efficiency?

Suggestion: I would prime, paint, and clear coat your scoops to better match your OEM red paint, or paint them black for a hidden look... these look faded in color.

The vents in the scoops are supposed to prevent you from sucking in water/snow/debris or anything like that.

It may be a placebo affect but I do. Mainly like others say when you're going 50mph+ and punch it. The next night after installing I was going 50~ in a 45 and the light turned yellow, the guy ahead of me was stopping, I went around and punched it and I have never been thrown back in my seat like that before. I feel like the 40$ is worth the price even if it is for the reasons to get through yellow lights and make quick passing lane changes. They also look nice imo.
