PnP Alpine Tweeter DDT-S30
Guys,
I made my own PnP harness for Alpine DDT-S30 which plugs straight onto the stock speaker. Given tweeters specs it is ideal to complement stock L7 dashboard speaker for center channel. As I am doing MS-8 retrofit so was preparing my car for it. A tweeter in the center channel is a must to get proper front staging. I have seen other members put Vibe coaxial but since Vibe is 4Ohms and in most of cases it will be powered by MS-8 small amp, 4 ohm will be limited to 20 watt max while rest will be at 30watt at 2 ohm. Having exactly the same setup is preferred in the center channel so that center can produce precisely same result as doors. Mine was done for E60 but this will go to any E9x as well. Spare one for sale for £20 + £2 p&p. ![]() ![]() As you can see here in the picture it does fit in E60 also where there is almost no space to fit anything. Also it is precisely in the center. In the hazy picture above it may look as it is touching the speaker cone edges, but it is not. It is resting on the speaker's outer seal and there is 2-3mm gap between the cone edge and tweeter housing. Speaker's outer edge hardly moves even at highest excursion (tried by hand) so there is no interference there. Installation is very simple and easy. You need to remove iDrive/CIC screen and cable tie the crossover. Remove the speaker cover then unscrew and remove the speaker. Feed cable from inside and connect to the speaker's tweeter connector. Put speaker back in and screw it. Now mount the tweeter and put the front cover, you are done. 30 mins max job. Tweeter specs are like this: 1" PEI and Titanium Balanced Dome Tweeters Peak: 360 watts per pair / 180 watts each RMS: 100 watts per pair / 50 watts each Frequency Response: 4,000 Hz - 26,000 Hz Impedance: 4 Ohms Sensitivity : 90 dB/W at 1m PEI and Titanium Diaphragm Hybrid Pearl Mica Injection Woofer Cone Light Weight Air Injected Rubber Surround Neodymium Tweeter Magnet
