All I did was mention it, and he started telling me about the recall. He didnt tell me the # or anything. Just try to call them about it. They must know now...
I was just calling to try to get a new cable to see if that worked... Good luck! Definitive PS: Does your iPod ever die to the point that it wont turn on then you get in the car? Or is this just me? Its like its draining the iPods battery when the car is off or something??? |

Yep. My iPod was fully charged when I put it in the same day I picked up my car. About 10 days later iDrive would not recognize the iPod and I couldn't turn it on when I took it out of the car. It wouldn't even charge from the computer's USB port. It's a 4G so I had to use the external power supply that came with it and then everything was fine (I believe the external power supply also resets the iPod [but I may be mistaken]).

I called the service department at my dealer and they said the 6FL fix has not been released in Canada yet - maybe next week.
Definitive: Please let us know how it turns out. Thanks. |

This info is great. My iPod Nano keeps doing the same thing, and then when you go into the iDrive media selection the CD is dimmed. You have to disconnect and reconnect the iPod to get it to reconnect. I just drove all the way from Melbourne to Adelaide (850Km, 530miles) with no music because the f**ing iPod and BMW refused to talk, and sometimes only intermittently.
It seemed to be fixed the next day after the BMW had gone into "deep sleep" mode and all is now fine again, but my dealer is definitely going to hear about this.

Well I have bad news for myself. Got a call yesterday while my car was at the dealer. The service guy said that he was not able to do the fix on my car. And that He thought I had a different car.
Then he went on to tell me it might be my ipod... Grrrrrrrr. But then he said he was going to test everything to see if he can find a reason to do the upgrade. I am not expecting good news today. Well seee... Definitive |

OK - here's the skinny. It's NOT a software fix. They are replacing the Y cable because they have found out it does not put out enough current to allow the iPod to charge correctly. All of this is a result iof evaluations of similar issues with the iPhone.
BMW NA said the parts should start to become available later this week (I talked to them yesterday). Check with your dealer.

Just the CHARGING issue. BMW NA says they are NOT AWARE of ANY FM Switching Issue !!!!!

Thats not good...
And I got more bad news today. They were finally "aloud" to upgrade my programming and the guy says it still does it. So at this point they are at square 1.This is not fun, I just want my car back. I dont even care about the switching anymore... D |

I talked with BMW Canada Customer Service last month and explained the situation with my iPod. As my car was built in May, they said replacing the MULF wouldn't do anything as I already have the new one. A software patch is supposed to be released in September, but they didn't say when or what else it would address.
As an aside, I measured the power going to the iPod from the USB port and there's a definite dropout when iDrive switches to FM. The voltage sag lasts about 0.4 seconds and goes down to 1 V (from 5). I drove around with a 'scope on the power lines and captured the same signal drop every time it glitched. I have rigged up a low impedance super cap to cover the 0.4s drop that happens every 6 minutes (or more or less). I hope to try it on the car tomorrow. |

Customer brought the car back again a few weeks later and insisted I do something. So I wrote to BMW N/A again and they told me to trial fit a known good MULF. So I did, and it worked. The bulletin that is out needs to be updated and ive told that to BMW N/A when I found out a new MULF fixed the problem... I keep in pretty good touch with the client now and its been about 3 weeks and his i-pod is working flawlessly ![]()

YVR335i: If this works, please post how you did it? I will do it for my car ASAP.
It is insteresting how every dealership says something different, and how different things seem to fix the same problem in different e92's. Weird.... |
