Question about MP3 Artist/Song title data/display
I have the logic 7 (non-nav) audio system in my new '06 330i. I burned an mp3 cd using iTunes on my Mac, and it appears that the stereo has the ability to display song & artist title, but when I select that option, it states "none" (or something to that affect). When I go to "list" it displays the file names, which are the song titles with the "*.mp3" extension.
It's not a huge deal, but it appears that it is suppose to work, and it is a little confusing scrolling through 60 songs without readily identifying the artist. Can someone advise if they are able to see this information in their Logic 7 system with an mp3 disc? Am I not burning with the right options? |

A review of a similar post on an Apple iTunes discussion page revealed the following, which may prove helpful:
Assuming your car player does CD text then prior to your burn in the itunes playlist do a select all on the songs you want to burn, go to advanced and change the id3 tag from version 2.2 to version 2.3 |

Thanks for bringing up this post AudiA4. I'm just speculating, but maybe it the e90 will read the artist and song title tags that are embedded in the .mp3 file. So, please check your mp3's you burned to see if there is an song name and artist tag in the properties. If so, maybe it's a Mac vs PC issue. So maybe look at the same .mp3's in Winamp on a PC for song title and artist tags.

I'm think this is stemming from the fact that iTunes stores its info in ID3v2 tags while the stereo is only capable of reading ID3v1 tags. You should be able to find ways to convert your mp3s such that they store their information in both versions.
iTunes allows conversions from one version to another but I'm not sure if it preserves the v2 tags when going to v1. You might lose some information from your tags if they don't conform to v1 specs such as limited lengths on text fields and the specific set of genres that are allowd in v1 tags. v1 tags are tacked onto the end of the file and have a fixed size while v2 tags are of variable size and are at the beginning of the file. |

Cool. Problem solved - thanks Armen52! The problem does lie in the ID3 version. For anyone using iTunes to burn mp3 files, make sure that you select "Convert ID3 Tags" under the "Advanced" menu and change to version 1.x. As Armen stated, the BMW system only recognizes ID3v1 tags. I was either burning with NO ID3 tags, or some variant of 2.x or above.
Thanks again! This is a great substitute for an iPod since the tracks can be controlled by the stereo and steering wheel controls (only limitation is the 12hour limit). |

I also use iTunes and was able to burn a CD that worked in my 330i just by using the drag and drop burning feature built into Windows XP.
Here's my MP3 display - top level - artist: 2nd level - album: 3rd level - song title: ![]() |

Mp3 tags
If you then click Curr - you should see Artist at the top and Track title underneath. This (CURR) also updates as each track is played (edit - but only if pressed everytime the song changes). The screens you are showing do not update. They are only the Folder and file names. Those screens are used for choosing what you wish to play only.
Edit. If you can now click TRACK (after CURR) it will show the MP3 tag info ![]() If the ID tags are not associated with the mps then it shows something like "no name"??? Last edited by - Paul -; 05-20-2005 at 07:35 AM. Reason: New info |

Roup1, how did you get the top level folders to show up on your display? I made an MP3 disc made up of several folders but can only navigate the titles and not the top folders. In other words I can't jump from one folder to another folder using the controls. It's a pain to advance 40 tracks manually if I want to play a song in a particular folder. I have both Nero and itunes..please help!!!!! |

If I am playing my IPOD into the AUX in a non-nav car, will it display the song/artist?

Don't think so - that info isn'carried across the headphone jack. You'd need to have the iPod connected via it's dock connector to be in with a chance of getting that information displayed.

OK, I'm confused. I'm burning an MP3 CD from iTunes 4.9 on Mac OS X for my 330i without iDrive. It plays fine, but I can't get any song title or other info to show up. It only shows track number and in list view the file name. I've tried both ID3 1.0 and ID3 1.1 tags. Is there some option or something somewhere else in the radio to set? I don't see anything but I can't think of anything else to try.
Update: Doh! Never mind. I finally realized that the display (Title up-arrow) gives you the title info if you press the left side of the button, I was only pressing the right side of the button! ![]()

Just a general question for those without Navi. Is it hard to play an Mp3 CD with multiple folders, or do you just have to get used to it? It looks really confusing to me.

Well if you can get the MP3 player to navigate through the folders then it's great(see the pics from Roup1 above). It's like having a 15 disc cd changer in your car becasue you can burn about 150 songs on one CD.
I am starting to think the 325 stock sound system is not capable of displaying the folders. Can anyone verify this? |

Hi Beri486,
Just got my car yesterday and did some "research" on the mp3-player. When the CD is in, press the LIST-button. Now you can scroll with the knob on the right hand (I don't know what is called but its the opposite one of the volume knob) throug your (current) MP3-map. If you reach the top of the list, the name of the map is displayed. Pressing the right knob, the maps are displayed and you can scroll throug the maps. Pressing the knop again, you select that map and you can scroll through the songs in that map, selecting one by pressing again. Hope it works for you too. |
