This talk of "defying" the government and not paying tax...reminds me of that Family Guy episode where Peter decides to annex his house as an independent country, Petoria, and goes to war with the US.

Unless you pay yourself under the table through your own business, you will still have to pay taxes on your income. If you don't show an income, you may well have to explain why. Furthermore, your business will have to pay tax on your income. Furthermore, your business will have to pay on any profits realized by your company.

Don't get me wrong, I am a business owner of 22 years, there are definitely benefits but simply forming an LLC on the face of it, isn't going to result in you playing less taxes.

And to the OP, don't believe everything you see on the interwebs. It has been tried again and again. The dude always ends up in jail.
Thanks for the input and advice.

Trust me, I'm no mindless sheep. Also, don't use Einstein's quotes to make yourself seem more intelligent again. I'm positive you're not one of those "great spirits" he's talking about.

You are right about the anarchy comment.. I was hyped up after watching that video. But I'll smoke what I want, when I want.

Bottom line
Based on the information, I may have to reconsider my stance on this issue. Even though it seemed like I was trying to spread anarchy through the forums, I was just trying to see people's opinions about the video. After losing a close friend on 9/11 (don't need anyone's pity), I had some very strong feelings against the govt. And after watching this.. It just brought out some anger in me.

OK, I tried to watch that video even though I saw it was nearly two hours long....I lasted maybe ten minutes. Did I already know that it wasn't legal for th government to require individuals to pay personal income tax? YES. Have I thought of giving up US citizenship and living in Europe? Not really. Would I ever consider refusing to pay taxes facing more than a year in court at my own cost, which would most likely still result in jail time? HELL NO!

Sure it all sounds nice, and if you do go through with it, best of luck to you.

Don't really have the time to read up on stuff..
I trade stocks in my spare time, and I was wondering if it falls under Income Tax.
Also if you win a large sum of money while gambling, do you have to file it??

Whenever I started reading this, I was thinking of how Texas can legally annex itself from the U.S.
But then the government would get all pissy, and figure out some way to get back at us.
We don't really need the government to protect us, because most of us have arms anyway.
And who in their right mind would attack Texas of all places??

lol..t.hat's Florida. But you still have to pay federal. State tax is almost nothing compared to federal. btw, property tax pays for the income tax missed.

Yes and yes.

If you trade stocks and the stocks are not held in a tax-exempt investment vehicle like an 401K, IRA etc, the brokerage house will forward documentation to the IRS. You are expected to show this income on your 1040. This is for straight profits AND dividends that you received while owning the stocks.

If you 'forget' to show the income, they will come down on you fast. Tax returns are now reviewed totally by data comparison. If they have a W2, 1099 or whatever showing income and your 1040 doesn't show it, it will send up a red flag.

Note that you can offset profits with losses. Each year, I sell some bum stocks in December and write off the losses.

As for gambling, I think if it is over $600 (approx) the casino will ask for your SS # and file paperwork with the IRS. This is for a single win. Obviously if you play blackjack and slowly accrue over $600 in profit, the casino will not know.

I think the casino rule varies, but it's closer to $2000 around me. I've cashed out $1400 to $1600 in chips with not even a second glance from the cashier. A buddy that's heavy in blackjack keeps his chip redemptions under $2000, has had to file for a couple $5k nights.

Like the quote goes, two things are certain in life, death and taxes. This is a dumb post, you're not going to get away without paying income tax. If you need some youtube video to educate you on tax law you have issues. The personal attacks are a little immature as well.

Check out the 16th amendment to the constitution if you need some clarification.

As much as i hate paying taxes, this country is the best place to live...

Why don't you guys go to a third world country where they don't pay taxes as much as we do, and see how their way of life is?

God bless america!
