Its been tough to find the 335i with exactly what I want under $30k.

*Sedan
*Black on black
*Manual
*Sport
*Navigation
*Premium

I found one on cars.com for $19,500 with 95,023 miles. http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...nal&listType=1

Mileage is high but price is very reflective of that, about $5k less than I was planning to spend. 2 owners on carfax, both owned 2-3 years, no signs of mods. No issues reported or red flags from what I can see on Carfax. Its a CPO for another 4k miles, which means I'd have about 3-5 months (of my current driving habits) to drive around and find any problems.

#1 - Besides oil change, spark plugs & intake walnut blast cleaning, any other recommended maintenance items needed right off the bat?

#2 - Can anyone tell from these pics if it looks like it has the factory oil cooler?

#3 - I may opt to not get an extended warranty if no issues the first few months having it at CPO mainly because I will be wanting to go Tune, FBO, & Meth. And since the price is lower than anticipated, I could put a few grand in the bank for mods and rainy day repairs.

#4 - Any other issues besides possible HPFP, injectors, & wastegates that I should anticipate/be aware of around 100k? I like to do most of the maintenance myself and don't mind giving repairs a shot if it will save a significant amount in labor costs, so hopefully this car isn't too much of a pain in the arse to work on.

#5 - Thought in general about buying a high mileage e90 n54? The mileage does not scare me as I only put about 8-10k/year on it and will be looking for an M5 in a few years anyways. (Of course, like anyone, I don't want a high mileage money pit, though.) Plus, I know that a quality, well taken care of car should go well beyond 100k anyways. But I have never owned a BMW before, let alone a turbo'd BMW so.... help

Thanks all for your time

you mean under 20k? you can get an aftermarket warranty and I'd recommend it.

I am at work so can't make a proper response for you, but I can tell from the time the warranty runs out, there is a high possibility the car may have a build date that didn't include an oil cooler. It really isn't too big of a deal if you don't have one, however.

If you do have a wastegate rattle, bring it into the dealer and PUSH for new turbos. It is hard to say how well the previous owner treated his car as far as yhow hard the turbos were worked, and if you can get new turbos, that would be great at that mileage.

Your #1 maintenance looks good, I would try and get those done immediately. Push for the dealer to do it, that would be better under warranty. If you notice misfiring, I would swap out your coils, or try and find the one that MAY be causing the issue.

No, I've been looking under 30k, mostly around the 25k range. There isn't many options period under $20k, lol (besides this one of course)

True, I wish it wasn't so far away so I could go check it out sooner. I just emailed the dealer about getting some service records if possible, specifically for the HPFP issue

Thanks, I just checked the VIN and the build date looks to be early 07, so its an early build.

+1 100k that's a lot of miles.

What is a point of buying a BMW with 100k miles? Just to show off that you have a BMW?

I think I would rather get a new Camry/Civic then a beat up BMW...

Just think at the big picture is this your long term car for the next 10 years? Your daily driver? Do you think the car given its current condition will be able to last that long without you throwing a lot of money at it.

I agree thats a lot of miles and I would not buy a beat up BMW just to have one. If this BMW has been well taken care of, then mileage isn't as big of a deal to me. (provided it doesn't become a money pit) My 2005 Acura TL has 100k miles and looks, feels, and rides like a new car. Its been well taken care of and it shows.

Yes, it will be my DD, but doubtful for 10 years. I may keep it that long, but it probably wouldn't be my dd for more than 3 years. I expect routine maintenance, a new clutch, belts, plugs, coils, etc to need to be replaced/maintained, but being new to Bimmers, I'm not sure what other areas could be common issues to throw money at.

I have over 100k miles on my 400+ whp 335 and fully expect it to go another 100k miles. It's all in the maintenance, I feel. Don't use the 15k schedule from BMW, though. Find the old school method and go with that.

Most of the 335i that I have seen have high mileage when I was looking. I would definitely get an extended warranty because I did when I bought a used BMW. It will give you peace of mind.

It seems there are more E92's with what I want, but that perfect e90 has been elusive so far.

+1 Hopefully this one has been taken care of, still waiting on service records and more info from the dealer.

#1 - Besides oil change, spark plugs & intake walnut blast cleaning, any other recommended maintenance items needed right off the bat?
(power steering fluid,tranny fluid,Differential fluid,coolant,cabin air filter,engine air filter,)

#2 - Can anyone tell from these pics if it looks like it has the factory oil cooler? (yes it does, but that doesn't mean squat in terms of reliability)

#3 - I may opt to not get an extended warranty if no issues the first few months having it at CPO mainly because I will be wanting to go Tune, FBO, & Meth. And since the price is lower than anticipated, I could put a few grand in the bank for mods and rainy day repairs. (I don't think those mods are gonna be covered by any warranty)

(parts can be pricy but the maintenance is straight forward that cars been in production a while and there ae a lot of DIY stuff out there as well as Bentley Manual)

#5 - Thought in general about buying a high mileage e90 n54? The mileage does not scare me as I only put about 8-10k/year on it and will be looking for an M5 in a few years anyways. But I have never owned a BMW before, let alone a turbo'd BMW so.... help
(PPI is worth the money on ANY used BMW you can't tell shit about a car till you get it up in the air and look at if from below).

#4 - (parts can be pricy but the maintenance is straight forward that cars been in production a while and there ae a lot of DIY stuff out there as well as Bentley Manual) Thats good to know, thanks

#5 - (PPI is worth the money on ANY used BMW you can't tell shit about a car till you get it up in the air and look at if from below). Yeah, I'll def be doing a PPI. I know of a great one local, but might have to use a BMW dealership if I am purchasing out of state
Thanks for the responses

If anything, take it to a local indy and have them inspect everything. It may cost a few hundred, but you will really know the condition of the car. And if it looks good and you buy it, have that indy flush all of the fluids (maybe not auto trans, that is your call), new air filter, general maintenance, etc. Then enjoy!

This ^^^. This car is very high on miles, so you chances of repair down the line is very high. You have to take into consideration of repairs down the line which are going to be costly. It does looks REALLY GOOD thought whatever you do get the repair history and have it check by an Indy shop just to make sure, and another question why are you considering to buy a BMW with close to 100k miles?, you can find 08 coupes almost loaded for luike $31k.

Main reason I looked at this one is that is is one of the very few that I can find (under $30k ) that is a black on black manual e90 with sport & nav. The mileage isn't desirable but the markdown on the price kind of has me thinking. There are a lot of options if I were looking for a coupe, but I need 4 doors
