RobBeck, how do you mean: "I also wouldn't suggest doing internals even if you insist on following through with coatings." ? Please explain it.

any reason why you're still using JB3 and not JB4?

It means that if I felt some uncontrollable need to waste money on a coating for these double wall air gap insulated OEM manifolds, that I wouldn't do it internally. Typically is just not advisable on turbocharged applications. For other systems that use traditional single walled tubular manifolds I'd recommend coating, but I'd still personally shy away from doing anything internally. We all have our opinions though, this is just mine.

Because of the restriction of the factory turbos (and hybrid turbos based on factory turbine house and manifold) I have decided to rebuilt my engine and built a completly new designed twins with custom made manifolds (we do not use factory turbos and factory manifolds) for my e92 335i. Project status: 45%. I will post some pics, once we ready.

I encourage everybody to use high quality ceramic coating on different parts of the engine, on manifolds, on different parts of the turbos, even on downpipes and on exhaust pipes.

M3Tuner44, i dont see wheather you have applied ceramic coating only external on manifolds and turbine house or also internal. Is much better and more efficency to apply ceramic coating external and internal to built "closed" heat shields.

Laszlo
I coated just the exterior. Like others said I didn't find a need to do the interior due to the double wall design.

Well I dynode with the JB3 so I decided to keep it until after I install the turbo wheels and dyno again. Just trying to keep all the variables the same. JB4 will come soon since I think it will work better with the meth kit I purchased.

The car is completely together and running well. I haven't pushed it to hard yet, but there is a different whistle then compared to the stock wheels.

you know i got rid of the sti and went with the 335i for ease of making lots of power w/o doing a ton of R&R.
then i see a write up like this and have first hand knowledge of what these wheels can do(mainly INSANE spool time) and im back to wanting to tear the turbos out.

cant wait to see the numbers. im guessing +10-15 across the board and full boost 400rpm sooner.

ah i see, good thinking for the baseline/consistency. Im sure your gains will be even better with jb4 after seeing good gains with jb3.

earlier spool up with this engine would be insane and completely eliminate any minute lag that exists with high hp tunes as soon as the boost hits, can;t wait to see results

So the results were very disappointing. The car lost 15-20whp and between 5-10wtq. It was very upsetting especially after all the work. I enjoy working on my car but when the results are worse then before it really sucks. So I will be removing them soon. And "nation" they did not spool up quicker. But it wasn't a total fail cause now everyone knows that these have a negative effect and so they won't be purchased. Anyway Jesse from Turbokits.com was great and it was great working with him to get this all settled out.

I don't mean to rain on your parade OP, but prepare to be disappointed. You will LOSE power. I showed you my results.

Shitty deal, man. This should be stickied at the top of the forum since it's very helpful info.

Why exactly would you loose so much hp/torque if the only difference between the wheels are the aggressive fins?

your results are surprising and I wonder if tuning could have had some effect. Or the company offering the wheel, just has a crappy product. With a more efficient compressor you should gain HP (maybe not much) at a similar boost, even with no turbine alterations. Thanks for posting your experiences!

Well it has been on other cars with larger turbos and they worked fine.

Don't get me wrong. I appreciate your efforts because if nobody tried to play around with these things we wouldn't know much. And knowing a second or third time doesn't hurt and only backs up the facts.

+1 you need at the VERY least a clipped turbine, even still at this point in the game a full upgrade is key
