Extended Warranty and Mods

I'm curious as to the thought process some of you guys went through before decided to buy/not buy an extended warranty when you vehicles 4yr/50K was up.

I'm approaching that point soon, and I find myself excited. I feel like i've been reluctant to put on the mods (dps, fmic, exhaust, etc) because I can't take them off myself etc., if I have to take the car in to the dealer. Now without a warranty it's my car again.

The practical part of me tells me i'll be livid if something goes wrong with this thing 6 months after my current warrant expires.

any insights?
much appreciated..

Well I was somewhat reluctant to mod too because of warranty but couldn't resist. I've brought the car in a couple of times FBO for minor repairs/service with no issues. I just remove the tune and meth. With this being said I'll be in your boat next year when my warranty expires. I think I'm just going to trade it in on something with a warranty. I really want an auto or DCT so that's my major motivation but factory warranty also helps. If you could find a good deal on an extended warranty I wouldn't let mods stop you. If something serious breaks just pay to return it to stock if you have to. Still way cheaper than paying for the repair yourself. I personally won't own a BMW out of warranty.

I never intended to keep this car outside of warranty, it can get very costly. Some people get lucky. I say if you want to keep the car, get it.

When you take the tune out before you take it into the dealership, the car doesnt throw a code for the downpipes?

Haha. It does. On the service records it shows that they reset the light. I thought about getting a BMS dp fix but decided not to. They haven't said anything about the DPs. My SA is pretty cool. A couple of the techs are really cool too. Just have to ask for them when I schedule appts.

Does anyone know if we still qualify for the BMW Extended Vehicle Protection option plan after our 4yr/50K is up if our cars have flash histories, ie Dinan, Cobb, etc?

I take my car in full mod all the time if I have any issues that would be covered by CP. Running a Procede for the past 20k and I just put it in map 0. I'm at 62k on my CP and I just took my car in for Waste Gate noise. I told them about it at 44k and they didn't do anything, now at 62k they want to charge me 2k to look at the actuator arms to see if they need adjustment and adjustment isn't covered. If they find they are worn out and out of spec, they would replace the turbos under the current CP at no cost. So it's a crap shoot. Like I told my SA, I asked about this at 44k and was blown off by the tech because he said even if the adjust them they will still make noise. Now to actually do something they want to change me. He said he understands, but needs to get it approved. Anyway, I’m not too worried. I can adjust them with the Procede, but they still make noise when they close and at startup they are really loud. So if not I’m one step closer to a single turbo upgrade.

On CPO here. I remove everything that is pretty visual an pull the tune. DCI and tune are removed every time. I leave the FMIC on and never once had a problem.

Even with many many parts being replaced. This cars about as reliable as a blind lifeguard.
