would you buy a higher mileage xi?

I'm looking at an 07 328xi (auto)
has just over 100k miles (175km). Its mostly highway and this was also proven by carproof.

I'd do it, I guess you need to ask yourself what kind of driver you are. I enjoy driving my cars hard, so i'd be a little leery myself.

But I have had highway cars with 250k mile son them and they ran great. I guess I'd need to see how big the savings are vs lets say an 07 328xi with 50k on the odometer. If the cost analysis is worth it, then I see no problem.

Good luck

its for my wife. I'm replacing her 02 325xi wagon. KMs dont scare me. My daily drive is a diesel 07 Jetta with 340,000 km (211k miles) I get about 800 miles to a tank on that thing on the highway.

My 07 335 has about 35k miles because I rarely drive it.

07 328 still has the engine lifter issue, and at ~100k miles I assume no CPO there you would have to pay for the repair (I think its ~$7000).

Also, I've read this issue causes physical damage to camshaft, so longevity...with lifter issue...??

I dont know where you read that. The lifters have no functional impact at all. I'm at 102k miles on my car and it has the lifter ticking and I have no major issues with my car at all.

Theres no reason to pay for the lifter fix unless the noise really bothers you and even then, at 7k, thats nearly half the cost of the car as is now, just get a new car.

My bad, I didn't mean to sound like an alarmist...I agree with Lenaxia...if you don't mind the noise, it's likely not a problem...but, I do have a few comments:

Regarding the physical damage, please see this post:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=112

Regarding the cost to repair out of warranty, please see this post:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...postcount=1290

As background, I've considered buying a used 2006-2008 E90, and summarized my reasons for not buying a used 2006-2008 e90 in this thread - see post #2036, and 2037:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...2#post11034952

In the end, I decided to wait until I can afford a used 2010 328xi, which has the redesigned engine head...likley in another year or two. But, if I I had to upgrade in the immediate future, I would get a used 2008 A4 3.2 V6...because from what I've read they're significantly more reliable than the cheaper 2.0T counterpart...their only drawback being carbon build up, because Audi didn't do a great job implementing Direct Injection technology into this engine.

To the OP, good luck and happy hunting

What did you buy? How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking? As I said earlier this one is 14k cdn. The owner is on a trip and will be back next week - which is when I'd be picking it up

I bought a used 2007 328xi E90 with 47K miles and drove it until it had 85K. The car had also had been in an accident according to the carfax. It ran flawlessly and I did not think twice about the purchase. I only traded it because I always wanted an E92 and none were available for the price I wanted to pay at the time.

Hey fellow Canuck! Anyway, I bought an 07 328xi with just under 155km just amonth ago and it runs like a dream. This was a one owner car with all service records so I know the car was in good shape when I bought it. I ended up getting a limited drivetrain warranty (mostly for peace of mind.). I did a lot of research before buying and from what I found out, these inline 6's are bullet-proof engines that are good for very high mileage.(I've read 250-350k miles isn't unusual.)
So I say go for it. I hope you enjoy your car as much as I am mine.

I did buy the car (in feb). I got a really good deal on it as the guy who owned it was too rich/busy to sell vehicles. Drove great. Then a few weeks later I started noticing a few issues. Put on 4000 km since I bought it

Sportshift setting didn't work. I know the problem (tiny wires are cut) common issue
Vanos
And just recently water pump died (waiting for the pump to be delivered so I can install it.

So far I've done the vanos solenoids, spark plugs, valvecover gasket. I need to do the water pump, transmission flush and fix the wires for the sport shifting mode.

Since its a daily/winter car, I picked up a set of 18" CSL wheels and some h&r lowering springs
