what is the purpose of the black felt strip around the door?

I am sitting in the car and noticed the felt strip does not really touch the door or anything else. Just curious.

Thought it was for sound insulation. To prevent rattles and such.

I think it's so you have a reason to use a lint brush in a car with leather interior.

It's obviously to hide your cable for your radar detector hardwire.

I did both of these today. I hate the way that felt attracts lint and crap.

If it really bothers you, you can replace the weather strip. The replacement part does not have the felt.
